Well after 4 weeks waiting, I picked up my new Rolex GMT II today - and it's brilliant!
The new strap design and ceramic bezel is fantastic.

Well done mate, good watch...Why did you need to wait 4 weeks? I've seen these in stock with nearly 4 dealers now ranging from Welwyn Garden City to Milton Keynes..It looks fairly the same as the older version.

You may then not have seen the NEW stainless steel GMT model. Released in the UK only last week. Larger case, triplock crown, ceramic black bezel (with larger number markings), green tint on crystal and green GMT hand, polished centre links in bracelet.

Retails for about £3,400 at the mo.

Dont forget to "itemise" it on your house contents policy for the full value.... Most insurance policis have a ceiling of x amount per article, and if yours is £1,000, should you have it nicked, you'l be £2,400 out of pocket, god forbid it ever happens.

Up the insurance value! Things have moved on over the last year or so.

Cool watch - how about a pic of the famous gas valve

WTF is Rolex playing at?

These watches like GMT(11), Submariner, Sea Dweller have been around for ages in almost exactly the same form. They still sell well and are all classics.

Why all these new radically different watches? Are they going for ther Sub and Sea dweller next? What's with all the rolex lettering inside the case front ?

Thats the one - its the 1665 model! Have a look on timezone.com for some for sale. If you get it serviced by rolex make sure you don't let them change the dial as these have changed too - obviously the new ones have a deeper rating (4000ft now) but also have the markers outlined in white gold. The glass on yours will be plexiglass while the modern ones are crystal. Don't let them change anything!

From memory you'd have to pay about $10,000 to get one, but England being England you'd probably have to pay about £6k over here. If you still have the box and papers you could probably add about 20%.

Very nice watch!

Spot on Maxf, it is indeed the 1665 model, I'v worn it every day since new, apart from a short trip to Nigeria, where for obvious reasons, I swapped it for my £18 Casio. Thanks for the links as well.
