While on holiday last month I splashed out and bought a Louis Vuitton Tambour Travel GMT Automatic watch from their Beverly Hills store. Are their watches highly rated? Do they use movements supplied by somebody else? I also noticed it has a sweeping second hand - is this usually a sign of a quality movement?
Love the watch, I'll try and post some pics when I figure out how.
The sales assistant said I should send it in for servicing after two or three years, which he said was free, which I thought was pretty good.
I bought a spare alligator watch strap at the same time (£250 Yikes!). Can I buy a tool so I can change them myself or should I take it to a watch shop? Louis Vuitton stores aren't exactly on every street corner!
Thanks
Jono

The sweeping second hand is indicative of a mechanical movement though not necessarily of its quality.

They aren't known as a watchmaker so I would imagine they have used a movement from an established watchmaker in the LVMH group, of those I think only Zenith actually make their own movements. If it does have a Zenith movement then you certainly have a good movement in there.

A quick Google does not reveal much information.

You can also see it at

http://www.louisvuitton.com/web/flash/index.jsp;js...
Once there, click on Collection, then Men, then Timepieces, then Tambour Travel.
Mine is the third one down with the sandy dial.

Yeh, pretty diffrent not sure about some of there designs (typical luois vitton according to the wife) but one thing you can be sure of is if you buy one of these you wont see so many of them about on other peoples wrists, which i think is always a good thing!!
