simple question really, what is the most expensive new watch you can buy, i know of a patek philipe grand complication that starts at £700,000 but are there any others quite as expensive or even more expensive?

Chopard's super icecube is about £640,000.

Vacheron Constantin Tour d'Ile was £750,000ish in 2005.

Chopard also made this beauty for £13,000,000

sticking diamonds on it is just cheating, It has to be a pure watch.

So are the actual mechanisms any better in these super-expensive watches, or is the increased cost purely down to stick on jewellery?

Those chopards are just tacky.
Diamond covered pieces of tat do not count as expensive watches just items for people with more money than taste in my opinion, though i did ask for the most expensive watch, so they count on that factor.

yeh I know, but a cheapy casio with the Star of Africa bolted to it is hardy watch making excellence. Whereas the Vacheron grand complication and others like it are the Bugatti Veyrons of the Watch world and justifiably expensive. Those hideous Chopards are diamond bracelets that happen to tell the time.

Thats like asking what is the most expensive clock and the answer being a huge country house with a sundial on the outside.

Well, its a pocket watch but other than that it meets the criteria....

The Henry Graves "Grand Complication". Comissioned in 1930 from the Patek Philippe watch company, completed 3 years later, at the time the most complicated watch ever made. Sold at auction for $11million back in 1999. God knows what it is worth now.

The patek was called the Caliber 89 and they made 4 watches in Platinum, Yellow Gold, Rose Gold and White Gold. I was lucky enough to see the final piece being finished by the master watchmaker at the patek factory last month.

They were sold for 1.3mil each.

Stunning!!
