Right then,

I am sat here thinking I want a nice watch. Having my last for nearly seven years and finally having a bit of disposable cash to treat myself at some point (probably around Christmas) I have begun to look at watches.

Right my dilemma, I am unsure how much to spend. I am thinking value for money and probably comfortable spending up to say twelve hundred pounds once personal circumstances ironed out (wife having a year out with our daughter).

So obviously having decided the budget what to buy? Should I view something purely as what I like or with maybe a more sensible head that might not depreciate as much as others? I would like something individual with everyday wear-ability.

What would you guys and gals recommend?
It will be my first watch and have spent hours reading threads to try and educate myself and keep flipping between an Omega or Brietling (budget would need to be increased obviously). I like the Pan' and IWC but they are way out of my league.

Also would the watch be likely to retain in value? Just thinking of maybe changing in years down the line and keeping the mrs's sweet about it holding it value. wink

All advice appreciated and thank you for any input.

Ad.

Are you happy to buy a used watch? Something like a classic Heuer is more likely to retain it's value than a new watch.

if you are happy to buy second hand i recommend you check out

www.watches.co.uk

they have some very good watches in your range, i would in my opinion go for a omega over a brieting, as brietlings do not tend to hold there value as well,

shame they do some good watches, but omega have some good classic designs.

good luck.

What's a brieting or brietling?

Get an IWC to be safe from the spelling police.

First, what sort of watches do you like/are you looking for? I'm guessing from the Breitling/Omega suggestions that you probably like chronographs.

Secondly £1200 is a fair bit to spend on a watch if you aren't sure about it.

How about something like a Sinn 356 at about £5-600.

If I were you I'd forget about the retained value bit. Set your budget and buy what you like, yes its possible to argue about brands etc and value but in the end who cares? People buy watches cos they like them and suit them. If you enjoy it for a few years then it doesnt matter how much its worth - I suppose its like people buying cars they may not like for investment and then not using them!

Your budget will buy lots of nice watches just go look!

I do like the look of the Sinn and will have to find a supplier close to me to have a closer look.

Also I will forget about the retained value.

Is it worth the extra paying for the scratch resistant sapphire crystal?

What is the difference between the Flieger 356 II and the Flieger 103 St Sa?

Anyone got a model guide?

Try this Sinn. Both the 356 and 103 are shown here. The copper faced 356 Flieger II looks luuuusssh. Unless specified the Flieger II comes with an acrylic face, I think its about an extra £100 for the sapphire.

Some of those sinn watches look VERY like Breitling Navitimers and IWC Pilots Watches.

Go for looks and personal choice!! Whatever you like the most is worth more than the resale value in a number of years time! As by this time you will looking at buying another watch and keeping your first as a milestone to the start of your collection.... Good luck!!!!

Yes I cant afford to buy any more watches after just getting 2 more to make 11 in total but every time I see that site I find it harder and harder to resist clicking on one of the following

Sinn 956 Fulda Automatic Pilot Chronograph £1,495

Sinn 903 Automatic Pilot Chronograph £1,125

Sinn Flieger 356 II - Pearl Finish Case and Bracelet £725

even the cheapest is out of my pricerange at the moment yet I still hover over that button

You'd be crazy to pay list price for any Sinn model. Find a friendly grey dealer and you'll get 25% off no problem. wink Brand new watches, with manufacturer's warranty.
