Was given a Breitling Hercules (black face for Xmas. I wear it every day (normal office environment).

I'm really disappointed by the number of small scratches appearing on the face - have I got a duff one, or are they all like that?

If it's normal, is it brasso to buff it up?

I have two Breitlings, a Superocean and a Navigator I have had for over 10 years. Both faces are in pristine condition. You aren't one of those who wears the watch on the inside of the wrist are you? That might account for it.

I thought the glass was crystal so it couldn't scratch, may be wrong though?

On the face, or the metal surround?

No, I wear the watch on the outside of the wrist. I believe it's saphire crystal - hence my post. Hmmmm....

Who gave you the watch? Had they recently been abroad and purchased it from a friendly Nigerian.....

Ha! No, it was originally for sale in Malaysia, but sold by a company here (I won't name them yet - just about to phone them).

Just taken it to a Breitling main dealer, and the manager (a watch specialist) said it was good, but they would need to send to Breitling themselves to confirm - along with all papers, box etc. If it is a fake, then they will confisate, and I will be left with nothing.

Will see what happens...

I have worn a Breitling Aerospace almost every day for the past 11 years and the only damage to the 'glass' is when I tried to polish out a scratch on the bezel and took some of the anti reflective coating off.

Hmmm... maybe it's the anti-reflective coating. It is slightly proud of the bezel, but even so, I've been careful - this is from normal use. If so, not impressed...

(BTW watch was gift from an ex, whom-ever asked).

She's out in Hong Kong buying up another batch of knock-offs! laugh

Sorry Don! - Seriously though, the sapphire crystal is hard as nails - it shouldn't scratch at all. Have worn my navitimer most days for the past 4-5 years - plenty of normal wear and tear scratches on the case and bracelet, but not a mark on the glass (not even to the anti-glare).

Hmmm... will see about the watch.

Ex is back with her ex. Body and mind of a p0rn star on her (including pumped up b00bies), but madder than a sack of soapy badgers.

I'm with someone far better now anyway! biggrin

Mine will be 9 later this year... wear it every day. The glass is fine... never had a problem.. few small scratches on the titanium strap, but they heal in time....

Wore my Hercules almost every day for over 3 years (till some censored stole it) and it didn't have any marks on the glass, the bezel and strap had a few scratches but the glass was perfect.

Really miss that watch cry

Had a Rolex Oyster Perpetual for 14 years wear it 24/7 and the glass is still perfect . The stainless strap got a few scratches , but they took those out on service three years ago.

Always liked Breitling Watches suprised to hear they scratch .

My son's Tag is still scratch free after 2 years

Sounds to me like it might be a moody one, sorry.

I've got an 11 year old Navitimer with its large exposed face with not one scratch. The rest of the watch has had a battering but the face remained scratch free.

Sapphire shouldn't be scratching.

Finally some good news. It is real, and it is now with Breitling for investigation. 4-6 weeks.

Phew.
