I think the watch is for him sparky......
2k can buy quite a lot of watch at the moment depending on wether you want new or 2nd hand?? The obvious choices around that money (for me) would be a 2nd hand rolex submariner.. or similar GMT etc. A chopard mille miglia 1000 new for less than 2k, or a nice breitling depending on your choice of design?

If you like the Raymond Weil, and it is your ideal watch then go for it. A lot of people buying top quality Swiss watches invariably chop and change just like cars. There are a lot out there to own/enjoy. You may be in for a shock when it comes to P/Xing your Raymond weil....
In general terms Rolex sports watches such as the Submariner, GMT or the Explorer are always sought after. If you would wear a previously owned, late model I would go for a year old Sub or GMT. Get a watch where someone has taken the depreciation, and when you come to change (if you do) it will be relatively pain free.
Hope this helps.....Dominic

thanks for the replies. i would be more than happy to own a pre-owned rolex, but i have to say i am not that keen on the look of them. the only one i have seen that i like is a yatchmaster. a friend has one, but i think he paid about 4k for it. your point regarding future value could be something to think about though.

my wife wants to by me a watch for my birthday. only has about 2k to spend. i like the look of the raymond weil parsifal watches. are they any good, or are they just a pretty case. do you have any other suggestions?
Only !?! I would ask her if she would be happy getting a used watch and then the world is your clamshell.£2k is a very good figure to have the pleasure of spending.....
(ps dont forget to buy your wife some flowers etc as well when you do get your watch)
