This must have been discussed a million times before........

My question is simple.........

Is it possible to obtain a stainless steel Daytona for list price ....without the wait ?!

Any other ideas ? I've even spoken to Rolex UK about this issue.

The only way I've heard of is to get very lucky when going through airports, but if you don't spend half your life on a plane bad luck, you've just got to find somewhere to put your name down and wait like the rest of us, but it's worth the wait. wink
Not sure what the current arrangements are but when I entered the list about 6 years ago it was £100 down and wait for the phone call. phone
S/S Daytona owner for the last 3 years after a 3 year wait at my local Goldsmiths

No. The guys who sell new daytonas 2k above list trawl around for them 7 days a week, have jewellers call them when they get one in for a backhander etc etc. Joe bloggs can't go in and buy one tomorrow. The only way to get one at list instantly is to be a very big spender at your local dealer - buy a couple of platinum day dates and they might let you have one from the safe.

On the off chance that you do find one at list, without a wait - get me one too wink

I went into Goldsmiths in Bristol and was told it was 4 years to get onto the waiting list, then £200 deposit and full list when in stock total 6 years.

Forget it. My local Rolex dealer have a waiting list four pages of A4 long! Unless you
know a jeweller well and can get 'bumped' on the list no chance of getting one any time soon.

Even being on very good terms with them I had to wait over 18 months.

No chance.

www.watches.co.uk in Chiswick have about seven brand new unworn SS Daytonas (new fathands model) with white and black faces for £6395.

Call them and ask for Dee.

Out of interest - what is it about daytonas that get people so worked up about?

A guy in the office has one, and says that as a watch, its crap. Very poor on keeping time and has sent it back regularly to rolex to get it sorted but to no avail.

And there are many other similar watches out there that are easier to get hold of.

So why do these command such a premium?

Not a dig at those who own them - its more a question as to what I am missing. I paid for and recived my IWC within the week. What makes someone wait 3 years?

I think the waiting list thing is partially self-perpetuating.

The more you can't get one, the more people want one and hence the more they can't get one.

That and the fact that the Daytona is a very fasionable watch to have amongst racing drivers etc.

its a great looking watch from a great brand with a lot of history...

also people always want what they cant get.. it's all down to Rolex marketing at the end of the day, they limit supply to keep demand and the hype up!

you can get the more expensive steel / gold versions but they are perhaps not as fashionable as the plain stainless steel version.

in addition people know the resale is always going to be high too.. so you spend £4-5k on a watch you can pretty much get this back after a few years use while on the eq. IWC then you will be lucky to re-coup 40% of initial outlay.

i will second that on the keeping crap time... constantly running fast over 2 weeks.

I waited 18 months for mine, it arrived with a white face and promptly changed it for a black face. It doesn't keep good time it probably looses 4-5 minutes a month in fact all the Rolex I have owned have not kept good time.

The waiting list all depends on who you know wink I introduced one of my colleagues to the jeweller who got me mine and 9 months later it arrived, he didn't take it as funds didn't allow and the next guy on the list took it.

Agreed on you have to know someone. My friends family is an extremely good customer of a jeweller (authorised dealer) over in Bermuda, my friend enquired about getting a SS Daytona for me at the beginning of May, the jeweller had one in his safe (black face) which he said I could have. Its winging its way back from Bermuda and onto my wrist next week....

I'll give you £5.5k cash for it if all the clear stickers are in place and it's the 2007 fathands.... or alternatively £2.5k cash plus a mint barely worn (maybe ten times) 50th Anniversary Submariner Date ("Kermit.." ) which fetches arouund £3.5k at watches.co.uk.

I'm in Limehouse so I can drop the cash off at your place.

Thanks ever so much old boy hehe

Genuine offer...
