How much ...................from the Tag Outlet shop in Bicester

Steep, isn't it? There are folk on the TimeZone forums who have paid hundreds of dollars for Panerai straps.

Replacement leather strap for a GP7000 Chrono, £250 - makes £90 seem like a bargain!

But, it's my favourite watch and after 10 years good service, I felt it deserved one.smile

Got that beat.......Croc strap for a WG Daytona is £144.00 which I think is excellent value really considering a Croc strap for a Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaut is £340.00!!!!!!

I guess I sound like I'm being a cock asking this, but why are you complaining at £90 for the piece of leather when (ok I'm assuming you paid UK retail etc.) a Tag Carrera is around a grand for a fairly generic movement in a nicely case?

Same argument with any watch I know but I can see good quality leather probably does cost money to produce the same as the leather in a Ford probably isn't as good as that in a Rolls etc.

Which is why I have always had steel bracelets. I haven't needed to replace it in 15 years and am never likely to.

Have a look at the Austrian strap manufacturer Hirsch's range, they supply most prestige houses with branded straps. The quality is top drawer, and the price is a lot less...

If this really pains you then do not, whatever you do, crack the sapphire crystal on a Tag Carrera. £350 ... ask me how I know frown

New Battery, Service, New Glass and a new strap on my Tag Kirium F1 = £420

Not too bad as it means I end with basically a brand new watch!

Watchmaker friend of mine said very expensive watches are no longer watches, they are a piece of jewellery that tells the time. smile

I don't 'get' leather straps, I can sort of see the point with dress watches, but with 'sports watches' I think they are pointless.

I wash, shower, bath, swim, snorkel, dive, do sport, get wrist deep in oil and grime when fixing my car, do painting and decorating, general DIY, do painting with the kids, change nappies, etc etc.......i.e. its never off my wrist. A leather stap would be wrecked in no time.

I can only think most people with leather straps take them off everytime they come to do anything.

Yep, thats right. I use a steel TAG for any activity and use the leather strap Breitling for special or social occasions. I dont really wanna use a 3.5k watch for every occasion as i want to keep it in a1 condition if poss, each to there own i guess!?!?

The leather strap on my Rainbow Flyback lasted about 8 months and cost £145 to change. So far this one's lasted over a year - guess I'm on borrowed time!

The straps aren't cheap but there's a thriving market in aftermarket straps as well as s/h OEM straps.

Of course part of the Panerai "thing" is that the straps are very easy to change but IMO once you get beyond the stock black/brown/silicone straps you're kind of into "hey look at me" territory more than any real need.

A new bracelet for my S/El was 400 or 500. Can't remember which, but not cheap.

timefactors.com do a rather nice leather strap with holes in. not bad at all for around a tenner.

I have a couple of Poljots with them on and think they look great.

£90 is taking the piss a little IMO although If it were my tag I would like to keep it original and probably pay it as wellfrown
