More advice please

First of all, thank you all for your advice on watches to consider to replace my Breitling which I can no longer read. I've decided to buy an IWC Pilot chrono with steel strap, but the next question, being something of an ignoramus in these matters, is what on earth is the value of the old watch; a guideline would help. I have the box and papers plus the receipt for it back in 1998 and it is a Navitimer limited edition Red arrows model. Maybe that actually detracts from the price, I don't know, but I liked it at the time though!

Firstly nice choice, i'm looking at getting one also, do you know the pilots chrono has just changed from the 3706 to the 3717.

The 3717 is 3mm wider and comes with both black and spitfire silver face. The watch looks much better in real life than in photographs especially the spitfire.

There is a boring thread on Timezone I started about the same watch with some rather nice photos.

As for your breitling i've got a '95 Old Navitimer in good condition which is perhaps worth £1900 at best. As for the limited edition red arrows, sorry i've no idea.

Well guv, these foreign watches. Not much interest nowadays. Be difficult to shift. Tell you what, because I like you, I will give fifty quid for it and throw in one of them nice digital jobs.

Seriously though. Had a quick scout around the intermawebby and think you should be able to realise between £900 and £1200 in a private sale. Not sure about part ex but as your watch is a limited edition it should have some bearing on the final value.

Thanks Freddie for that. Unfortunately there was a new Pilot Chrono on Ebay until yesterday bought from Harrods and never worn but he withdrew it. Pity, I was ready to pounce - the price had only got up to £879. Damn! Your cheque is in the post, as they say, and being of a suitable material will bounce it's way quickly to you.
