Have been considering one of these after they featured in EVO mag at the back end of last year:

Just wondering if anyone has bought one yet? If not, I might just test the water anyway...the AK 9015 or AK 1000 maybe...

They have the AK 1000 here at £389:

Just wondering if this could be a future classic?

They also have the AK 9015 here ...seems good value at £179.99:

They just seem to have all the ingredients of a future classic...The Kalashnikov pedigree (and social comment on giving up guns to make watches) combined with Swiss manufacture.....and good looking to boot. Have ordered mine! What could possibly go wrong!

Which did you go for? I'm liking both the current AK-1000 and the discontinued AK-001.

Whilst I understand the association with Kalashnikovs being robust, it never struck me that there would an automatic assumption that they're precision engineering. After all, the AK47 was designed to be built in mass production using simple processes. Effective yes, precision, definitely not.

Maybe if they'd called it a Mig or similar I would have been more impressed.

Aren't they all quartz movements? If so, I doubt they will reach classic status.

I played safe and went for the AK 9015 and have to say that I am delighted with it - once I worked it out from the less than helpful instructions! To a previous reply - I didn't say Kalashnikov were precision engineers with their AK weapons range( although that inference could have been drawn from the swiss manufacture)...but they made a weapon still in use on every continent because of its reliability and simplicity and, like it or not, the Kalashnikov Assault Rifle is an iconic symbol of the last century.

P.S.

I have a Tag for back-up!

Hi

I bought an AK-1000 from planet watches last year. I've hardly worn it and appears to have crack in the glass. Can't honestly say if it was like that when I bought it or not. Don't get the feeling it would be robust or hard wearing, but I quite like the look and the novelty of being able to take my AK to work if I'm having a bad day.
