A little while ago I started thinking about a new watch. My immediate thought was towards an Omega, which seem to be rather well liked here.
However, there I am looking over a nice Omega and a Tag Monaco catches my eye. Have to say that I think it looks gorgeous. Subsequent to that I've scanned around and found out a whole lot more about the range. I prefer the simplicity of this one (non chronograph):

Any thoughts or comments about them?

Good watch, stylish.

Don't buy the Gulf "Watney Market" Special.

If you get an early one (4/5 years ago) they were branded Heuer (leaving off the Tag line - pardon the pun) and look better IMHO.

Loads of nice ones here.

Pukka outfit. Bought my Rolex SubDate 50th from them in person. Call them and ask for Dee.

They've still got the TAG I traded in. Ref no TA-5016S

As it happens, I'll be in New York later this month and see that prices over there are rather good, e.g.
www.jomashop.com/tag-heuer-ww2110-ft6005.html

That's a good £300 cheaper than any UK shop I've seen. Any other recommended shops out there?
As for the Monaco, are there any of the versions that I should avoid?

Unless you have wrist as thick as fence posts, personally speaking, I think the Monza looks better than the Monaco.

If you can (literally) carry it off, the Monaco remains a very nice choice...

I've got that one. Actually I bought it after reading a thread on PH.

Only problem is that the "Automatic" movement doesn't hold enough charge to last over night - so I have to wind it before taking it off. The shop sent it to be checked and came back with the verdict that it's my fault - I don't move enough. It's possible I suppose... I have a desk job... but still disappointing, for the price.

also a plastic face, so pretty easy to scratch if your not careful - even a shirt rubbing over it is enough

I had a look at some Tags today.
On a second look, the Monaco just doesn't look quite right on my wrist. The Monza is even worse.

What I did like was a nice non-chrono Carrera. Also found a lovely Zenith, but that wasn't an auto. The search continues...

the one pictured above (slimmer/black face/no date) has a crystal face but the REAL one does indeed have a plastic face and is the one you really should get!

I have an automatic Carrera chrono and despite having a desk job too I *never* have to wind it at all. Dunno if the movement is the same as the Monaco but that doesn't sound quite right to me!

I don't think I do, but it was sent off and checked on a "mechanical arm" and apparently it's working as it should. I don't want to send it off again, it takes 5 weeks

As an example; yesterday I did lots of normal "weekend" things during the day - shopping, driving, that kind of stuff - then went to rock concert in the evening. Got home around midnight, forgot to wind my watch, and this morning found it had stopped at 5am.

It sounds knackered to me. I have several automatics (no tags thought) and all will last a day or so unworn, maybe 2 without winding.

I did ask a dealer about how long you could leave a Monaco without winding/movement. He checked a manual, and it's meant to be 48 hours. So if a watch runs down in 5 hours, it's not very well.
