Rolex Submariner Vs Omega Speedmaster Professional

I don't mean to start a Rolex vs Omega thing, just if you had to choose between these two models.
To make the price a bit more similar assume the speedmaster is a see through saphire case back model.

Tough choice - both are well known 'groundbreaking' watches. If you are only going to own one watch in your life though, it should be a Speedmaster Professional. I'm looking for a nice early Submariner at the moment though - they are both fantastic watches.
On the other side - could you not buy a second hand speedy from the US for £6-700, then you'll have a good deal towards a Submariner too - especially a used one.
both are classics but I like chronographs.
Also think the Omega has a bit more individuality. I work in the oil business and the submariner is VERY common. Shows a slight lack of imagination which is why I am not a fan of the rolex brand. I liken Rolex watches to Porsche Boxters (we are in pistonheads) great product but too often bought to impress other people.

Hahah - don't go down that road!
Always been torn between the two brands, out of the whole range of one versus the whole range of the other I plumbed for the ExpII; here the choice is a little more limited...
I like chronos, but I like to have the date... (1-1)
I like stainless and black...(2-2)
I like something that looks and feels rugged and can handle mistreatment (3-2)
I like something that's a little different (3-3)
I'd buy with longevity in mind (4-4)
And for it to be something I'd like to hand down to my kids (4-5)
So somewhere the Omega pips the post, but only just...and only just in this contest - I'd still choose the Exp II over any of the speedies (even date ones) but I'd have a Speedmaster over a Daytona....no accounting for taste eh?!?

I prefer the thinner bezel on the Speedmaster, same reason as I prefer the Speedmaster to the Seamaster.
exactly what he said. Which is why I picked up my Omega saphire back just a couple of weeks ago - It's a much nicer overall look and feel to the Rolex but ultimately whatever floats yer boat!
