anyone had one, what do they do to it, and how much did it cost?

So they polish the case and strap? etc

Polish case strap and clean out especially if you have a president strap, service should also include re-seal on the waterproofing and checking of automatic movement for worn parts and re-lube (for want of a better word)

Spot on with the price sometimes a bit more if it is a sea dweller or sub mariner due to the seal and helium release valve.

used to be about £180 (last year). Interestingly they will even change your bezel if its marked or faded in with the service, well they did mine on a GMT master.

Hope that helps

I use an independant near Stockport, charges £100 for a clean, lube and vacuum seal, he also polishes the case, crystal and the band. It also seems to keep better time when he does it than when the Rolie dealer did it last.

The last time I sent the Sub to Rolex they had my pants down for £400 and it still gains time. Anyone know if they keep better time when worn everyday?

thanks, around the price I thought it would be, its just an oyster so nothing fancy, case and strap could do with a damn good polish, never been brave enough to try it.

Mine is due in December and i've been quoted £250. That also includes fixing slight damage to my strap when i bent it when chucked out of a club!

Huh, I wanted Rolex to give my wifes watch a much needed service. No they said we don't do our old watches!! Boll0cks its an antique and requires master craftsman I thought. Put me off buying another Rolex for life, I expect life long service from Company that shouts quality from its rooftop.

You need to wear it daily to help keep it accurate so that it is keeping as much charge within the automatic spring movement, they are rated at + or - 3 seconds a day or around that region, if you want a mega accurate movement a rolex is not the best watch to go for a zenith is more accurate movement generally and proven but not as glamorous.

I'm sure i paid £135 a few years ago (Goldsmiths, Leic).

Did come back like new though

edited to add...they seem to keep it bloody ages & it might be worth calling around for the best price.

Thanks Walrus,

Unfortunatly I can't wear the damn thing everyday, as it is just too 'blingy' and may upset customers I recently bought a second hand Datejust for everyday use and that doesn't seem to be much better at keeping time. So it's back to the trusty old Speedmaster...dated.. but a damn fine timekeeper.

No worries I wear an omega as well I find it keeps a lot better time than rolex from personal experience, if you give it a wind up once or twice a week that will also help improve its time keeping just turn the pin for about 3-5mins and that should help a great deal.

I found that when I was in the uk (at about sea level) it used to gain about 5 mins a month. Then when we moved out to switzerland (about 400m above sea level) it kept perfect time for a few months, now its back to just under 5 mins a month. I know it needs a service now though, if that has anything to do with it.

Just brought a Tag f1 as a birthday pressie to myself, as its quartz it had better keep absouluty perfect time!

You bought a quartz movement and from Tag whats that all about ????

I appreicate you want an accurate watch but why pay the premium of a tag when a swatch, casio would do the job. I appreciate that for the looks and kudos perspective why you would buy one but for me it is a waste of money ?

Why buy a Ferrari/Porsche/AM when a Ford Ka still gets you to where you want to go?
