Many apologies for all that are sick of watch threads, but I really could do with some advice.

I have a fake Daytona, which I brought in Turkey, just because I loved the look of it.

Now it is time to replace it with the real thing.

There is a jewellers in Blackburn, Lancashire that have the exact model I want. It is brand new, but they are not an official Rolex dealer. They buy in bulk from an authorised agent and then sell them at a reduced price £5395 against £6510.

Now having the fake and having done some research, there are things that I know to look out for, like the moving second hand! But can anyone tell me if I should either run a mile from these people, or whether they are likely to be genuine?

I'd hate to be fobbed off with a £5k fake!

I can give the name of the jewellers if required (there is no detrimental content on the web concerning these people and they appear to sell a lot of items).

Many thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Go to Dubai and buy it there. You're sure to save more than the cost of the flight.

My Breitling cost £1,800 in Dubai from an authorised dealer vs £3,000 in the UK.

Go into a load of Rolex dealers and find one that will take a deposit and sell it at list when they get it.

Will take a few years but you will pay list.

Assuming you want a stainless one, if you want gold/stainless or gold go to Heathrow and get one off the shelf.

Also, if you don't buy from an authorised dealer the warranty card won't be valid (I believe).

if they are not an official dealer how do they get them so cheap from an agent as surely rolex dealers would get the best prices direct from rolex?

big drop as well £1200, would they let you take it to a rolex dealer to see if its genuine if you left some kind of refundable deposit if it wasnt? if its genuine then why wouldnt they?

It is a b-metal that I am after, so where abouts in Heathrow are you talking about?

The pre-owned bi-metal items, seem to go for mid £4k.

I am sure that there is enough of a profit margin, for a handsome discount to be offered, but am still nervous (please, no Nervy jokes).

List is now £4,000 for a stainless steel.

Speak with David Duggan in The Burlington Arcade in London 0207 491 1362 or David Duggan in The Bond Street Antiques Centre 020 7491 2714. I sold my Rolex Sea Dweller to them when I finally got my s/s Daytona

Airport jewellers in what was duty free.

For bimetal, treat the wife to a weekend in Jersey

I was there earlier in the year looking at the prices and there were two bimetals one with the bimetal bracelet and one with the croc skin strap at one of the jewellers we went into.

Presuming you are looking for the steel model with white or black face I would use a reputable/authorised dealer. Price sounds a little too good to be true IMHO. It is my understanding that you can't get a discount on this watch.

Good luck though - great looking watch!

I bought mine for £3,760 almost two years ago now.

Last time I checked for insurance purposes they had increased to £4,000.

I put the deposit down in May 2005 and remember around £3600 quoted as list, may well have been £3760 though.

My understanding is that BiMetal Daytonas are not hard to get hold of and dare I say can be bought below list..... Anyone looking for SSteel, I think they are £4k list but go for about £6k+ from watch dealers like Second Time Round, David Duggan etc.

I know you can get a discount on bi-metals and definitely on solid gold but the stainless you'd never get a discount as they are like hen's teeth they are that hard to get hold of. Goldsmiths in Bishopsgate had a bi-metal in the window before xmas. I know a couple of the guys in the jewellers and they offered a discount on the bi-metal.

Because you choose to sell based on volume rather than margin?

EDIT - the OP also mentioned "they buy in bulk" which suggests volume selling...

The OP also mentioned that the jeweller has a good reputation.

If the jewellers you mean begins with an 'H' and is owned by a guy called Mark go for it. Bought several from them including my current blue faced bi-metal Submariner.
