Sudden Watch Fault

I swapped the strap on my Panerai on Sunday, and soon afterwards, I noticed it was running fast. I mean fast! It's gaining seven seconds per minute(!)

Obviously it's going for repair, but does anyone have an idea what might have gone wriong?

Did the watch come into contact with a magnetic source whilst off the strap? I assume you didn't drop it.

That's all I can think of as I'm not a watchmaker. However - Tring Watch Doctors fixed, serviced and sympathetically refinished my Panerai (loose rotor from a drop) for around £450-500 a couple of years back. I think they are first class if you're in the area.

Nope. it was in the coffee table.


Actually, i may have dropped it about a foot into the rug, come to think of it....

Balance spring has tangled becoming shorter and thus ticking faster.
Can sometimes be sorted by holding the watch with your fingers, and banging your wrist hard onto a solid soft surface like a sofa arm.
If not, service time.

Update:

Spring did indeed appear to be snagged.

Gave the watch a little bonk on my knee, and it appears to have fixed it!

It's back to taking a minute to count a minute and it's kept perfect time for the past two and a half hours.
