Chrono24 + Japan + Warranty
Discussion
I am looking at a few different Omegas on Chrono24, mainly from Japan as the value seems to be good.
All are being sold as New, with boxes and papers etc. How can I ensure that I am getting the proper Omega warranty? Do I have to make sure that the dealer is an Omega AD?
I've seen a few ads where the watch has to be procured (i.e. it's not in stock), which could mean some enterprising fellow running down the road to buy it from Don Quijote and making a quick buck, which is fine as long as I get an official warranty. But I've heard that DQ isn't an official Omega AD.
What's the best way to buy from Japan on Chrono24?

I would have thought that if it has the Omega warranty card properly dated that it would remain under Omega warranty. After all, one can buy a used Omega privately with the balance of the Omega warranty and it just applies to the watch whoever owns it.All are being sold as New, with boxes and papers etc. How can I ensure that I am getting the proper Omega warranty? What's the best way to buy from Japan on Chrono24?
I've been pondering this very issue of buying from overseas via Chrono24 except I'd want to go and collect the watch in person.
I'm looking at a PP Perpetual Calendar where the price in either the US or Japan can be up to £10k less than the equivalent in the UK. Buying in person and 'exporting' the watch should entitle me to reclaim the local taxes applied so it would be cheaper than the Chrono24 displayed price and then declare the watch on entry and pay the UK VAT element. The savings justfiy the airfare and a few days accommodation especially if it's a US purchase.
What am I missing?

If the vendor is shipping the goods to you via an accredited courier/postal service they will have a proof of export, and therefore will not charge you any local sales tax. What am I missing?
It would actually be more of a palaver to pick up the watch personally and then export it yourself, as in most cases a local ‘delivery’ would oblige the vendor to charge local VAT/sales tax and then reimburse you (often less an admin charge) once you submitted the necessary paperwork airside upon departure.
If I log into Chrono24 with my Swiss ‘ship to’ location the displayed UK/EU/etc prices are shown ex local VAT. So the US/Japan prices should logically also be exclusive of their local sales tax element.

So I messaged the seller, and they said:
"Omega warranty card is included but it's not stamped by authorized dealer and we are not AD."
Does that mean the watch is or isn't registered with Omega? And if so, will they honour any warranty?
Have you tried asking them?"Omega warranty card is included but it's not stamped by authorized dealer and we are not AD."

When is the VAT payable? Does the courier company invoice you?
Japanese and Hong Kong watches tend to be priced pretty competitively even allowing for VAT.
I bought a Kurono from the manufacturer who are in Japan recently.Japanese and Hong Kong watches tend to be priced pretty competitively even allowing for VAT.
Received an e-mail with an amount of duty and VAT that was due and a link to pay it.
Paid online and watch received soon after wards.

If you can be bothered with the hassle and you see the watch before you buy, and the sums work out then you're missing nothing. Watches are cheaper in Japan and in general they take better care of them than we do. I'd be hesitant to buy a used watch though, especially a Patek 'serviced' by the dealer.I'm looking at a PP Perpetual Calendar where the price in either the US or Japan can be up to £10k less than the equivalent in the UK. Are you thinking you could buy abroad and somehow have a UK warranty?
My expectation is that a watch at this kind of level should have an international warranty.I'm a relatively frequent visitor to Japan, and if I decide to drop several grand on a watch while I'm there? Yes, I absolutely expect the warranty to be valid in any country Omega/Rolex/whoever operate in if that's where I am should I have trouble with it.
