Hi all,

It’s been a while since I’ve been hunting for a new watch - I’ve been the happy wearer of a Planet Ocean GMT for nearly every day of the last decade. It will continue to be my trusty daily watch, but I’m after a casual watch to sit alongside it. I have a Monaco Chrono (from when we married) which my wife has now adopted, and a Breitling Chrono from my 21st (20 years ago) and a mini monster for diving and horsing around on my travels.

All very different, all very cherished. However, as a pilot and aviation nerd, I’ve always wanted a flieger. The IWC MK xx are very nice of course, but I was always underwhelmed when I tried one on. They’re slightly too small for my liking as a pilot tool watch. I don’t want another chronograph (I have 2), and want a traditional pilot tool watch. I always hankered for the Big Pilot, but could never pull it off on my wrists.

Now that IWC have established the Big Pilot 43, it’s time to give it some real consideration. I’ve tried it on (blue on blue calfskin for me, with a brown calfskin strap to dress it down), and I love everything about it. I intend to see if my wife loves the MK XX, as I’d love to treat her to a new watch, too - but she’s leaning towards a 39mm PO.

I will be getting one, but wondering whether there are deals to be had? Pre-2021, the WOS at Heathrow just sold watches at a straight 20% discount. That is no more, but they will ship overseas (I’m non-uk resident), but you’re limited to what they have in stock at the time.
I’d also have to pay VAT on arrival here, too.

What about high-st vendors? If anyone has any experience of negotiating similar, I’d be grateful. Not a deal-breaker, but if I can save a grand, I will obviously do that.

JAGS

Happy to put you in touch with the AD/guy I know.

He would be able to sort something.
