Casio MDV-10-1A1V
Discussion
I was wondering if anyone had one and what their thoughts were.
Its the smaller 36mm version of the 44mm MDV-107-1A1VEF.
I tried on the 44mm version the other day and just found it was way to big for my wrist.
Looking at a few of the Youtube reviews its a bit a mixed bag. Some like it but want it to be a bigger, some think the quality has diminished by shrinking it and only having 50m water resistance, but im not going to be swimming with it

Mainly lack of screw down crown and no marlin on the dial
Like I say im not going to be swimming with it or getting it wet. Looking at the MDV-107-1A1VEF it doesn't appear to have the marlin anymore.

The mdv107 doesnt have the marlin but the mdv106 still does.
It'll be fine.
The dial isn't as nice, since it doesn't have the edges raised to the meet the rehaut, and sure it doesn't have the water resistance, but if you're buying it for the looks, who cares.
Worth noting though that the 44mm MDV-106 is a very capable watch, and costs £50 on Amazon. That would be my absolute upper limit I'd pay for an MDV-10, otherwise I'd be looking elsewhere
Edit to add, I recall this not actually being a 36mm, more like a 34mm. At that size, it's really going to look like a woman's watch unless your wrists are 6 inch or less.

That's what is slightly annoying, the smaller watch appear to be more expensive than the 44mm model.Pebbles167 said:

I thought the diameter was measured this wayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmYboYx77xo&t=...

Unsurprising, smaller watches are in. Maybe not this small though. Is it specifically the Casio you're after? If it's just a need for a diver, there's plenty of decent smaller stuff about.

Not really. I have a Tag Carrara Twin Time for smarter occasions but want a cheap watch for knocking about in. I do a lot of hiking and a couple of people i was with fell on loose, muddy terrain and don't want to damage my nice watch. Someone posted a picture of a MDV-106, which I really liked and was just looking at a smaller version. Pebbles167 said:
Yes that's correct. And to correct myself it measures 35.5/36. Considering it's supposed to be a 38, that's quite a difference.
Yes the reviews I watched all said if it was really a 38mm or 40mm they would have loved it. My Tag is 40mm and the jump to 44mm is just too much what with the 10mm case thickness.
I had two Duros. Great bit of kit but yes too large.
Only thing I can think in terms of small steel diver styles in this price range will be from the likes of Sekonda, which will largely do the same thing, only for less cash.
That is unless you want to go look on Ali express, you'll actually get a small watch for a decent price that's actually very capable for £50, automatic too if you wanted.

Re the 44mm original Marlin, I had 2, a black and a blue dial... Now I only have one after letting my cousin have the blue one a couple of years ago.
The watch looks good and feels way more high end than the £50 or so it cost but as my tastes in size have changed I find it way too big nowadays to wear.
If they made a 40mm it would be as common as a Rolex Submariner....

If you want a small, cheap, quartz divers-style watch that smaller Casio will be fine. I wouldn’t go swimming with it, however. That was a real disappointment as the standard MDV106/107 is reckoned to be a proper dive watch.
The other things that annoyed the Marlin fans were:
-snap on caseback instead of screw on (not a problem if you’re keeping it dry)
-16mm lug width, but it looks fine on the supplied black plastic strap.
Go for it if you find it at a decent price. They look great.

I ordered it this morning It should be here Tuesday. As one of the reviewers said " I would rather have a watch a bit smaller than I like and one a bit bigger than I like". Yes a 40mm version would have been perfect but ill go for what exists.Go for it if you find it at a decent price. They look great.

One of the reviewers suggested that it perhaps isn't a Marlin and its actually a Sailfish. But to be honest they are pretty similar to me.Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
