I have used Highworth for a few years. Not the cheapest but very comprehensive that gives me peace of mind abroad, diving, and even in London...

Approx 2.5% of the value per year. A fraction more for European cover.

I found adding to my home insurance was cheaper.

Always added mine to house insurance (Admiral) under listed items of high value, which you have to do for anything over a certain limit.. maybe 2.5k from memory. I have multiple watches and an EMTB listed and it only added on about £40 to the annual policy.

Me too. I have £10,000 for two watches included and it didn't add much to my annual home contents bill.

Good idea about adding it as an item on home insurance. Will investigate.

Added mine to house insurance too for about £25. Covers whilst out wearing it too.

Absolutely the right move -- see my posting in https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... for my accident with my Patek as a perfect example as to why you need it!

Does anyone have any other suggested insurers to add to this thread? I'm looking to get a few quotes.

My wife wears her Datejust daily, and I never wear any nice watches as they just sit in my drawer at home. I want to insure my wife's and mine, so that I can actually enjoy wearing things again with impunity.

Thanks

I added mine to my home contents insurance, it seemed to be much cheaper that way.

Thank you, I'll try that first.

Try Hiscox.

I have just discovered that right now on the chat with Aviva. They won't go above £10,000.

I tried to accept the £10k cover with them and take the risk for the extra £1000-2000 myself on one of the watches but they refused and said that would be classed as deliberately under insuring and they may not pay out in the event of a claim.

So I'll probably have to speak to a specialist.

Direct Line allowed 15k for an individual watch on the home policy.

So here's another strange one for you all - I filled in a form online for Highworth Insurance to give me a quote, and they just called me to discuss.

The lady was very pleasant and said they could give me a quote. She asked how long I had owned the watch, I said about 9 years, then she asked if it was stored in a safe at home when not being worn, I said yes, and she asked if it had been insured before. I said no, I haven't insured it previously, but due to the increased values of these items I thought it best to insure it from this point forwards.

She then told me they wouldn't insure watches that had not been insured previously!

What is that all about??

Maybe they suspect you might be wanting to insure to then lose the watch for payout.

Probably best to just say its previously been insured on house insurance.
