Hi all - simple question really. I'm after a daily for the wife and I think a 36mm diver will do the job. What's out there under £1k?

So far I've seen the Longines VHP (currently half-price for Black Friday) and a few Christopher Wards. Is there anything else you think I should be looking at?

ETA: I can't find any Seikos - do they do any of that size? They'd be my go-to as I really rate the Prospex I got last year.

Tissot Seastar, owned mine 2 years, really solid watch. It is quartz if that would put her off.

Another mid size option is the (quartz) Wenger Sea Force. They’re 36mm. Cheap but the bracelet isn’t wonderful.

Perhaps an older Omega Seamaster quartz? I think they did them in 36mm.

There’s also the Seiko SKX 013 (it’s 37mm and rather lovely)

Thanks both - I like the Wenger and Seastar. Seiko I’m normally a fan of, but perhaps a touch masculine for the wife?

I’ve accepted a quartz is likely, but more and more I am drawn to Chris Ward - they seem really good value for money.

Not strictly a dive watch but I purchased a CW Twelve in light green for my wife and it’s absolutely stunning, she’s not a watch person but really loved it. I’d recommend it to you as it has a screw down crown so there’s some level of protection. Ignoring all the ‘value’ and ‘price point’ chatter around CW, it’s a great watch, their service is stellar and it puts far more expensive watches to shame.

Would she accept a vintage watch?

Some absolute beauties for well under a grand

I tried on one of the smaller longline legend divers a few months ago. That was a great looking watch at 36mm although maybe not “girly” looking.

Yeah, I've thought about this - not quite sure where to start, really, and I THINK she might prefer modern, though I'm not 100%...

The Christopher Ward 12 is what I've been looking at and it does look lovely. I gather they don't do Black Friday deals?

That Longines is lovely, but no, I think that's a more masculine looking piece. The VHP was relatively Unisex to my eye, but I'm leaning toward C Ward now...

Whenever I search Chrono24 I wind up wanting to buy her a Seamaster at 5 times the budget...but I'll have another look.

I stumbled across Yema watches yesterday and their 34mm (I think) Diver looks like incredible value at 200 odd quid and might be a bit of a dark horse as it's unlike much else.

Lots of options.

Glycine Combat Sub 36:

Don’t pay retail for a Glycine.

Finally, the 34mm Longines HydroConquest is good value pre owned: you should be able to find an automatic for under £500.

Tissot Seastar is what Mrs Knee went for.

Quartz so no faffing around if she doesn't put it on for a couple of days and waterproof as she is a swimmer (and for holidays).

I like the SeaStar, but I love the Divosa - that’s a superb shout! Will make a call tomorrow…
