I’ve had my eye on an Intra Matic Chronograph for a while and, lo and behold, a good deal popped up on the internet from a dealer in the midlands who appear to have several physical stores.

I received the first watch last week and it appeared to have a loose second hand which would reset to slightly one side or other of 12 o’clock. The dealer apologised and upon its return sent another.

It arrived today and upon inspection: the buckle pin is at least 2mm too short and so the strap won’t do up, the Chrono also resets to about 11:58 instead of 12.

The dealer has apologised as is going to refund me but what on earth is going on? Surely a Swatch group company has better QC than this!

I have another Hamilton (an Intra Matic 38) and it’s lovely. Has anyone else ever had an issue with them?

are you sure the dealer stock wasn't sourced via the knock off shop in Asia?

I had a manual wind Khaki Field that developed a fault with the winding mechanism after a few months. I sent it back to Hamilton for repair. When it was returned the accompanying letter stated that their 'master watchmaker' concluded the fault was due to me overwinding it and breaking the mechanism. they had repaired this as a gesture of goodwill but would not repair a similar fault again. I was so incensed that I emailed and invited their 'master watchmaker' to call me to discuss this. I'm sure that gave them a good laugh before they deleted it.

It has coloured my view of the brand which is a shame because I love my Murph 38.

I’m don’t think there’s anything dodgy going on. They’re a legitimate business and a Hamilton dealer.

Also it appears to have a Valjoux based movement as you can feel the rotor freewheel when it spins in the non-winding direction. It also has the same distinctive feel as my other 77xx based watch when you hand wind it.

It appears to just be dreadful quality control. The shop said they’d update me with Hamilton’s response when they take it up with them. I will see what happens.
