Been looking to replace my Daytona I sold 18 months ago.

Quite like the look of a Patek 5119 and been offered one and then subsequently a better offer.

What’s the market for these like ?

Been able over the years to get in and out of Rolex’s but have no experience of Patek’s

Any info useful, thanks in advance

The Calatrava is a lovely watch and values have fluctuated between £15 and £9k (roughly speaking).

If you bought a Patek in the late 90s, you're in the ££'s of gains to say the very least! A friend with a 5035 has seen his go from £7K -> IRO £25-£35K depending on who does the valuation as he has all the box/invoice/manual/adjustment tool + service invoices.

Putting their marketing B.S. aside it is an investment

To be fair my Submariner cost £2100 new in 1999 and its now worth c£9k, youd have done a bit better with 3-4 of them.

IMO the 5119 is a good size for a Calatrava at 36mm, but the hobnailed bezel is an acquired taste. They don't seem quite so overpriced as other Calatrava refs.

A 5119 is an odd watch to replace a Daytona with. I have both and can't think of many occasions where there would be a crossover when choosing which watch to wear. Oddly the 5119 was the first Patek I ever laid eyes on when I was a pawnbroker, it came in a brown card box and I remember being massively underwhelmed as I was still quite into Breitling & Omega at this point. Nowadays I really appreciate the exceptional yet understated workmanship and it's rare that I wouldn't wear this watch if I was going to a black tie event.

I’ve found dealer spreads larger on Patek than Rolex in the past, certainly for the non sports models.

If you buy SH the i think your just going to be in for the dealer spread when you want to trade out - so a few grand.

These arnt the "trade at overs" hype watches of a few years back, they trade under.

Just to provide another option, have you considered the Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks? The 39/41mm steel options are really nice.
