I've Googled this and don't think I have found the definitive answer.

For a £10k watch, sold via Ebay, what is a dealer paying in costs / commission?

TIA

As a private seller it’s about 12% !!!! I presume trade sellers get a discount.

As a private seller, 80% off fees most weekends
So naff all.
Their free authenticator is great too. wheedles out any scammers, both ways.

I think they'll still want their 12.8% at the end. At least they've always taken it for the last 20 or so watches I've sold.

They're always saying free to list, but that's just the 35p insertion cost.

James is correct, they often offer 80% discount on fees, including the Final Value Fee. I've never listed a watch during these promotions to confirm eligibility, but I have listed other items.

Really? I clearly need to keep a keener eye out. The fee on last watch I sold stung a bit!

I used to be a business seller on eBay, though not watches specifically. It was quite common for business sellers to get worse deals than private sellers fee wise albeit it gets more complicated based on what size shop you have on eBay.

I don’t do it anymore, I have my own private account where I occasionally sell my own stuff but mainly buying these days.

None of those discounted final value fees have worked for me for at least a year.

Sold something for £58 a few weeks back , advertised after clicking on the promotion on the fees , ended up with just over £50 nett.

Couldn’t be bothered to take it further, I’m convinced it’s a deliberate action knowing people will not bother complaining.

Not sure if I am being grumpy, but there seems to be an uptick in organisations pulling stunts on the basis that people won't be bothered to complain. A bit like the parking ticket 50% discount for prompt payment. Lots get paid because people cannot be bothered to argue.

They do work, and you get an email into your " Messages" when they are available to you, usually 2, 3, 4 days over a weekend.

You have to clink the link to accept the offer, then list within the time frame of the offer, and sell within 30 days of the listing, after 30 days it reverts to normal fees.

It is a business model adopted for some time, with the underlying threat appealing may end up costing you more, it does not but they are not clear with this information.

It relies on the laziness of those expected to pay, though parking tickets can now be appealed online, council ones anyway, and they cannot issue them by post, from a camera anymore.

They do have to provide photographic evidence, viewable online, with an option to pay or appeal.

Not wanting to derail my own thread, but I've tried to get a refund on some shorts that were faulty.

The retailer made it very difficult to a point where I gave up.

My card provider has now asked for the same information three times and eventually emailed me a scanned copy of a claim form that they used to send by post. This is Barclaycard.

I suspect I will now get a call from Delhi from someone who doesn't speak English very well, trying to dispose of the claim. Which is what usually happens.

It looks like all concerned are making it as difficult as possible to obtain a refund.

Hi
Here’s an example of a watch I sold (private sale)
Double the WOS offer…
This also included the free authentication process. Eg I sent to Ebay authenticator, they verified the watch & sent it in to the buyer, for protection both ways.
If buyer wasn’t happy the authenticator ensure the exact same watch would be returned to me, to stop scammers:-

New Ebay offer received:-
