There are a lot of different Seiko homages. Which model are you looking for? What is the budget?

That's actually quite a nice watch in green.

I have it in black, my friend has it in green. The green is fantastic in the flesh. They are really, really good watches. I paid £100 a couple of years ago, At £60 they are a steal. Seiko NH35 movement too.

Some can be better-specced than the originals.

Better QC too in some cases- Seiko are notorious for chapter ring misalignment and timekeeping movements on their midrange 6R movements

Exactly. Buy direct from the land of slavery and concentration camps. "Yeah but I got a nice looking watch for less than £200!"

There are a billion on aliexpress. All will have Seiko movements and the nicer ones will have sapphire crystals/ Anything from San Martin or Cronos will be top tier.

If we are ruling out buying anything 'Made in China' on the basis the government are authoritarian control freaks with a penchant for 'removing' anyone or anything in their way if they can get away with it, we probably won't have that much 'stuff'.

IMHO (and each to their own on this) there is a difference between buying stuff made in China (iPhones etc) and buying direct from China. The first is virtually unavoidable, the second is a choice.

It gets worse, there are even Chinese brand knock offs of Casios. And Casio models that were only £20 in the first place.

So having principles is flexible? wink

tongue out

The people are not the government, in the same way that we have virtually fk all ability to influence the direction of travel our government takes - and we are in a western world with comparatively good 'freedom of speech' and the ability to mock our leaders on social media in an attempt to point out their errors without fear of being disappeared.

My bronze Steel Dive is my favourite watch and I wear it most days.

I agree. My thinking is that while it is difficult to avoid feeding China's war, slavery and torture machine, we can reduce our buying/needs. Reduce/re-use/recycle. Buy less stuff in general. Shop at charity shops, buy secondhand stuff.

Are you talking about these sort of seiko homages?

Or

There's loads to be found - Moddys - Watch Makeup - Elegant Mods - Custom Watch Haven. That's from a google search.

I have no idea how good these are or if the vendors are 'real' - with the proliferation of ads on social media I'm tempted to think that many are scams.

A GMT bezel on a non GMT watch? I don't think that this is a homage but probably a fake Rolex watch case, with an aftermarket Seiko dial that someone cobbled together. I don't have a problem with Homage watches, especially if they're modeling a discontinued model. The Seiko homages really exploded (in my mind) when Seiko decided to discontinue the SKX. Companies like Steeldive started making the same watch with a sapphire crystal for half the price of the replacement that Seiko introduced. They're well built and they have a Seiko movement. As long as they don't have Seiko on the logo, I don't see any issue.

I think you're missing my question - there's a new market in 'Seitona', 'Seimariner' and all sorts of others.

Are these 'acceptable' to the watch aficionados? treated with hate like the fakes, or just laughed at?
