Realistically… getting a new AP?
Discussion
About 15 years ago I was in Barcelona on a long weekend break and woukd, every day, walk past a shop selling an AP that I really liked. I didn't buy it as I at that point I really couldn't afford it but ive always regretted it.
I've now got a couple of rolex but really still lust after the AP.
I'm now fancying this
So............what are the realistic chances of a 'new to the brand' chances of getting one within a year or two?
I know i can go grey, but I really don't like paying 'over' for anything, especially as I would be wearing it a lot, so not exactly an investment piece.
Real world shared experiences gratefully received.

I don’t know much about that specific model but they don’t trade much above retail on the grey market suggesting their is no money in them for people looking at re sale. On that basis, I’d imagine the waitlist is reasonable. If you’re in London, it’s worth popping into AP House. They’ll be happy to chat whilst you enjoy a decent drink!

I did that pre-COVID and was greeted in a strange office, by a girl in jeans and tee shirt, who asked me "why I wanted to begin my AP journey".
She fetched out a black dial RO to try on. I didn't like it. But I asked how long it would take her to get me one.
"Three weeks, so long as you don't want the boutique blue one".
Wow that sounds quite encouraging. I thought it was going to be worse than rolex at their peak of 'up themselves' attitude.
The only fly at the present is going to London as I'm 300 plus miles away.
Happy to make rhe trip to 'buy' a watch but less keen if its a provisional interview type thing.
Still encouraging though and shall put my thinking cap on!

Black dial available here for less than list > https://www.chrono24.co.uk/audemarspiguet/audemars...
And, always worth contacting Dom Hackett watches to see if he can secure a trade discount

I think it was a matter of me being there in person and the watch not being that rare. Obviously for you it is more difficult to be there and the watch is less common. The only fly at the present is going to London as I'm 300 plus miles away.

You are unlikely to phone up and have them ship you one next day.
IIRC my opening gambit was “I cannot find one on the shelf, have you got one you can show me?”
I think for the sake of a few grand I would rather get a new one given the used example is 4 years old and been worn but I get your sentiments and I have bought from the grey / used market in the past.
I might have to conjure up the offer of a trip to London to catch a show type thing with wife and accidentally pop into the AP showroom having accidentally pre booked an appointment with them

I’m in the US so not sure how the market compares to UK, but it has gone from them not willing to discuss selling me a ROO back in 2022, to now saying I can get one in a year or two. All I have to do is show continued interest by visiting the boutique (Miami) every 3 months or so. Was a bit cringeworthy TBH but will play the game a while and see what happens.
I am after the 26238ST.OO.2000ST.01 (blue face stainless - similar to the 25th anniversary ROO reissue).
