Any pit falls in buying a Tag Heuer Carrera...
Discussion
Greetings! Fancied this particular watch for many years and now in a position to splash out...

There are about five for sale at Goldsmiths or Watchfinder. I like the design and prefer the ones where you can see the movement from the back. Bracelet too.
Any advice on this particular model or the online sellers appreciated, thank you!
Nick

Your main issue with buying TAGs is the fact they dont hold their money like other brands but buying used kind of negates that somewhat.
You may also find that other brands offer a similar watch for less money
I've got a TAG F1 that i got for my 40th birthday, yes i could get a number of other watches with better specs for less money but as a kid i wanted a Tag so only a Tag would do.

Interesting thanks!
Had heard that they don't hold their value as well, but the model I like when I first saw them I think were about £2000 (2010 ish). They still are from a dealer. I presume though that if I wanted to sell it straight away, I'd lose money, just like buying a car from a dealer!
Would be keeping it for ages though, so not too fussed about that.
Buying seems fairy safe from the above dealers, as they claim to authenticate, check and service them. Plus a two year warranty, but are they really this good?

That watch has a Valjoux 7750 movement, this was in many Omega, IWC, Breitling etc chronographs for several decades.
Tag make really nice watches, if you like it… enjoy it

I’d be tempted to go/contact to the outlet stores at Bicester or Cheshire Oaks before buying just in case they had something suitable available. I’ve not been to Bicester for a long time but was impressed with the pricing when I looked before.
This..Last time I was there my partner bought a previous year's Tag for aporox 60% of what they are now new (just a different colour face)
And we nipped in to the Breitling store, they had a Navitimer for 3k that was 4k new.
Thanks again for all the suggestions!
We are near the Cheshire Oaks outlet on Friday, so will pop by. New prices for the styles I like are too high, but a good discount or previous years model could work well
Great to hear that from people who have had the particular model I like and that they have been good watches!
Cheers Nick

Echo many of the comments on here. Carreras are really nice looking watches.
A Tag (Link) was my first proper watch bought over 25 years ago. Quite chunky, well built and has been faultless. Still used today as my holiday watch. Also have a Monaco which I love.
Do try the outlets to save a bit of money but buy as a watch you want rather than an investment. Not a problem if it is a keeper.

It's defintely a watch I love the looks of and have done for about 15 years! There are other Carreras that look good as well. Next stop will be Cheshire Oaks outlet. If nothing there grabs my eye and wallet, then Goldsmiths or Watchfinder I think...
Not buying as any sort of investment.
Really appreciate all the comments!

If your not set on a Tag then there is another watch shop at Cheshire oaks, its basically swatch group and they have some great deals on things like Hamilton, Tissot and Mido. Not buying as any sort of investment.
Really appreciate all the comments!
