I'm sure I'll get some agreement that this is good news!

It's a positive step, although far from cleaning the streets of London up.

Technically I'd guess these are robbery under uk law rather than theft and if they are using a knife or other weapon it's armed robbery with potential for life imprisonment from the quick google I did which returned this:

https://www.dpp-law.com/services/criminal-defence/...

Sentencing guidelines apparently that custodial sentences begin at 4 or 5 years although I'm unsure if all robbery results in a custodial sentence.

Excellent news!

Wonder where they get the watches from. Given the article reports one being ripped off, I'm guessing your average high end jeweller isn't going to loan one and a government agency isn't going to permit buying fakes.

Proceeds of crime perhaps?

I'd imagine they are fakes.

Imagine the grief if you lost a £10k Rolex, even if it had been seized under POCA.

Great stuff, needs to be dealt with robustly. They aren't scared of prison but if they think they'll get a proper shoe'ing they'll think twice.

Sadly somebody will complain their darling child was hit with an asp whilst trying to cut some bodies arm off and they'll stop this Op.

14 of the 21 so far convicted and sentenced to a total of 21 years in prison it says if you read the article.

If you can afford a Rolex, surely you can afford a gun. Problem solved (kind of).

And out in 12 months, maybe 10 months if they get Tag / HDC.

I guarantee that all be celebrating getting such a light touch.

What a mockery to all of their victims.

edited to add; If any of their victims had robustly defends themselves, the person being robbed would have got a longer prison sentence.

Short sentence would indicate they are here illegally, just enough time to wrap up a deportation notice send them to Somalia/Algeria whilst on his majesty's pleasure.

When I was living in London I used to stagger out of Solo bars and absolutely pissed. Thankfully we didn't have these gangs then otherwise no doubt I'd have been relieved of my watch redface
