A customer recently brought in a massive French clock for me to repair, and asked if I knew anyone who could repair a watch for him. It's a Corum Admiral's Cup. I haven't actually seen the watch yet, but from what I can find online, it's a standard ETA movement.

He contacted the UK distributor, who told him that they don't have a UK workshop. It's been off to a couple of repairers (via local jewellers) who sent it back saying that they didn't have the tools to open the case? Anyone know of a repairer who take this job on?

Give them time... have you phoned Joe or Richard? They are the watchsmiths. And any idiot can open a case with the right tool. Which is quite often a mutilated squash ball, or a big lump of blu-tac. Whatever works does the job.

These are great - I use them on any watch I don't have a case opener for.

You can get vacuum powered tools which will grab the case back harder than pretty much any other tool, even the maker's - Timpsons and the like won't have one, but a watchmaker (not a watchsmith), will normally have one.

Just to clarify - neither me nor the owner will be attempting to open the back ourselves, he's looking for someone who can repair a fault. For some reason two repairers have refused, saying they don't have the tools to get the case apart. Neither repairer was of the Timpsons/battery swap type AFAIK.

Looking at a couple of internet images, the back screws out with 6 slots for the tool to fit into it. I'd suggest that since it's a 316l stainless steel back, and therefore nice and strong and won't dent, a standard 3 point tool would quite happily do the job. Movement definitely looks like ETA based.

Try Darius at the Ealing Clock Gallery. He's very good with ETA movements as he learned his trade on them and I've seen him repair movements that I thought were ready for the bin.

Hi, sorry I have just spotted this post.
I would be happy to sort this out for your customer if you still need assistance.

You are correct, the standard watch has a 2824 in it, the chrono is a 7750.
I have all of the keys for Corum watches, so that’s not a problem.
The service cost would be less than you would imagine.

Send me an email and I can discuss further.

Thanks richard

Thread revival:

The customer has just brought 2 more clocks to me for repair, and mentioned that he is still looking for someone to repair this watch. Says he tried to contact "Rigga" quite a while ago, but didn't get a reply.

Any ideas on who he could try?
