I'm considering buying my Wife a secondhand Rolex Yachtmaster from Chronoedge Wilmslow, they state the warranty card has been lost by the previous owner, is this important? the watch is a 2001 so well out of warranty but not sure how important the document is.

They say the watch is verified with Rolex and was serviced by them in 2016

Also does anybody have any experience of Chronoedge?

thanks

If it was serviced by Rolex in 2016 it would have come with a service guarantee card from them....

All good then.
Means it has been serviced, and verified by them as being complete (rolex do not service fake/frankenwatches), and not reported to them as stolen.

Good to go.

Hi Mark,

The absence of paperwork doesn't necessarily make it a bad watch, just harder to sell as most buyers will look for a watch with the original box and paperwork. However, a watch with a recent Rolex service is very much almost as good as a full set. The watch will have been checked to make sure that it is not lost or stolen. It will also have a 2 year warranty from the date of return from Rolex.

With regards to Chronoedge and any experience. I have known the owner Andrew, for 25 years. He is a decent, straight dealer.

Hope this helps,

Dom H

I've always been under the impression that if you were to buy a watch without B&P you'd pay less, then you'd also sell it for less if/when the time came so I suppose it's all relative.

Chronoedge are just round the corner from my office, and have a decent reputation locally. No direct dealings but I know of people who have, and if Dom H says they're ok then that would be good enough for me.

For what it's worth, I tried to sell an pre owned AP with box and no papers last year. 1 dealer had no interest in taking it from me, 1 offered me £4k less than I'd paid for it months earlier (£10k watch, got offered £6k).

Eventually I sold it back to where I'd bought it from in a part ex deal, I believe he moved it on again within a couple of months. So it may be as simple as just taking the same hit as the saving you made when purchasing, but dependent on the value of the watch you may find some difficulty in selling it.

Is the price enough of a difference to not just pay a bit more for a full set?

Simon the price appears to be normal ie no adjustment for missing original warranty card

Personally in this instance for this watch I'd probably buy it, but try to get a few quid off if you can smile
