Hi watch types,

For years, I've worn a watch that is significant to me (SS datejust), but very junior in PH terms. I've always offered to buy wor lass something a bit better than her normal daily choices (several DKNY or similar 50-150 quid jobs), but she's never been interested in the slightest.
Anyway, we have a significant anniversary coming up. She's mentioned that her mate's mate has a new watch that she loves. After some googling, it's this...

[img}https://content.rolex.com/is/image/Rolex/?src=is%7BRolex%2Fshadow_oyster_yachtmaster_40%3Flayer%3D1%26src%3D50501%26layer%3D2%26src%3D50553_p_40%26layer%3D3%26src%3D50551%7D&$rv55-watch$[/img]

Needless to say, a spontaneous 16 grand rolex isn't on the cards! She paticularly liked the leather strap (which is really rubber).

So, people of the watch forum...

She's not arsed about the veblen effect.
Wants a black leather strap
Loves the chunkyness / contast of the yacht dweller
kind of likes the rose gold.

Any ideas? Doesn't have to be a status symbol like a Rolex would be, but I really don't think a Lizzy Duke special celebrates 10 years of marriage. Budget would top at at 2 grand and feel absurd (given that she's not that bothered) and sits better at 500 quid and a holiday.

Over to you...

I'm in this exact situation - have a DJ, wife wears fashion watches, want to buy her something "better", but don't want to spend too much as she won't see the value in it.

Anyway, I'm leaning towards a Longines Hydroconquest of some flavour.

They have a design very similar to that YM, without the rose gold though - https://www.jomashop.com/longines-watch-l36574562....

If 'loved the chunkiness' means she wouldn't mind an absolutely huge watch, the 51mm(!) diameter Invicta 17582 would be perfect!

Only $99 + import taxes too! wink

I'll find something more suitable when I'm at my desk!

Does it have to be brand new, or would you look at second hand? For example (of price, if not design) http://www.chrono24.com/rolex/lady-oyster-perpetua...

A quick look seems to return the conclusion that quite a few rose gold ladies watches come on rose gold bracelets ... and can be a tad expensive too! Following on from the Oris suggestion above, how about a TAG Heuer Formula 1 Diamond Set Ceramic? I know TAG Heuer doesn't have a particularly good following on here, but all her friends will know the brand ... and that is what's important! wink

37mm diameter, steel and ceramic construction with a striking light grey/black contrast, diamond hour indices and 200M water resistance.

RRP is £1400. However I'd highly recommend contacting Dominic Hackett (Fellow PHer!) at www.hackettwatches.co.uk to see if he can obtain a good discount for you.

There are a number of nice watches in the ladies Tag Heuer range that are worth a look, IMO.

That's a lot of money for a quartz watch.
PH is very specific on this:
  1. Quality doesn't really matter
  2. The brand must be really old
  3. It must be an automatic, in house movement
hehe

Seiko is making a hommage to it's own first diver's watch.

More info:

I think they look stunning, the limited edition is priced a bit too rich for my taste but the other two ar reasonable (imho).
