Hi guys so I've never had a truly beautiful watch just usual watches while been a kid then used a iPhone 7 for time but now I want a watch!

But I don't know which

My budget will be anything upto about 3k-3.5k

So far I like tag heuer especially the connected and other tag heuer watches

I've seen a couple of omega and a breitling

Are tag heuer worth the money whether it's the connected or a normal version or are they crap

If this was your money and had upto 3.5k to spend where would you put your money and I'd rather have brand new!

Feel free to post pictures of what you have and any pictures of watches you recommend

Thanks

Don't stick 3/3.5 k into a tag, your ll kiss half
Your money away on shop profit , And definitely not the connected tags.

It's not necessarily that tag don't make good watches because they do, they just aren't held in the same esteem as other brands. That's reflected in their resale and residual values.

Look at omegas / breitlings/IWC at that price point, if at any point in the future you want to change / trade your ll see more of your money back.

Lot of people get hung up on Tag . They have just introduced the new Tag Hueur with a vintage look. Though thats 4.5k i think.

Maybe a Omega Speedmaster?

I had one , it was sooo nice.

Friend of mine picked up a Tag Connected from Oslo airport for £1050, which seems worth a quick hop over there if you want one. It's a nice thing, even if I am still waiting to see the smart watch that separates me from that amount of cash.

Agree that a lot of shop profit offends the Yorkshireman in me smile

First decent watch and that budget, as noted above, surely a Speedmaster Professional has to be top of the list?

Timeless looks and amazing heritage.

And with your budget you will have enough for a G shock to give you a perfect two watch collection...

I wouldn't buy a connected. They are going to have the same obsolescence issues as the Apple Watch etc. The only Tag I would buy personally is a Monaco and even then I would look for a used Heuer

They are indeed. But caterpillars can be lovely too.

New? A Speedmaster.

Second hand? My ten year old, just serviced to 'as new' Breitling would be within budget : (The photo's before the service!).

Although if I was in the market now at that price I'd go for a second-hand Rolex Air King.

Firstly, what kind of watch are you looking for, primarily? Something ubiquitous? Sporty? Dressy? Diver's? Pilot's? It's important to understand how you are going to use the watch and what constraints this puts on your choices.

We can give you all the recommendations in the world but the only person who can decide what watch they want is you. Have you been on swisswatchesdirect.co.uk? Have a browse on there and see if you can spot anything you like the look of. You can also get a fairly good discount from them as well.

There's nothing wrong with TAG Heuer. My first luxury watch was a TAG and I still cherish it to this day. Would I buy a TAG now if I had £3.5k to spend? Probably not, but my tastes have changes slightly over time.

Your first luxury watch should be something you really lust after and can't stop wearing. Don't just go for the big brands because they seem safe and easy. Take your time, buy quality and, very importantly, buy something that feels great on your wrist.

Have a watch of one of Tristano's videos here. It's 29 mins long but worth watching and will give you some perspective on what to buy.

^^Wot Rob said.

The OP may as well have said:
Hi, I'm looking to buy a really nice form of motorised transport. I've only over had a bicycle before. I have roughly 30 to 35 times what the average man in the street would spend. What should I buy?
Before anyone could answer that, they'd need to know if you wanted a car, a sports car, a MPV, a 4*4 or a motor home! It's the same with watches. Do you want a diver, a dressy watch, something classic or something modern? Are you looking to strap something huge to your wrist, or something discrete? How big are your wrists?

You will get a nice new watch for that kind of money, or a very very nice watch if you are prepared to go second hand. In the price bracket you're looking at there are plenty of 2nd hand watches that you would struggle to tell from new.

For a first decent watch go new from an authorised dealer. I would be looking at Tudor (made by Rolex). They have some great watches.

Buy a breitling you will lose half. Buy an omega you will lose at least a third. With the Tag...you might have to give it away.

What I want from a watch:

Something that will still look good in 50yrs time I have no plans of selling I want something that's dressy and looks good,

This is also a watch I want to pass down to one of my kids one day!

My dad has a breitling titanium watch that has the 2 displays that he says he will give me when he ends up 6ft under and I want to pass that to my eldest son too after I eventually pass!

But yeah I just want a nice watch in general, I've never treated myself to a nice watch and I'd like one, one that I know I've worked hard for and can appreciate it

That one is in the States. You'd do better to get one from Europe to avoid import charges. That one also has a few marks on the case. You should be able to get a spotless one for that money.

I think you can safely say that a Tag Connected does not fit that criteria

I was subtly trying to get you to think past Rolex & Omega but you pretty much picked out two crackers from these brands that i definitely would buy!

Honestly, get friendly with a local jeweler that stocks both. They are both iconic, robust and timeless watches that will stand the test of time. Try both of them on and see how they feel. Choose the one that looks right and FEELS right. If you're going to be wearing it for the next 30, 40, 50 years then it HAS to feel and look good on your wrist. This is absolutely non-negotiable.

Air King ref: 116900 would be the one I'd go for but good luck finding a new one for less than £5k nowadays...

For Speedies, have a look here. Fairly decent discounts to be had with manufacturer's warranty if you can't negotiate a satisfactory discount from a high-street jeweler.
