Panerai Watches
Discussion
I'm not really a watch person, I like a Rolex or a TAG, but I've got other things to spend my cash on.
On a recent ski holiday, one of the blokes rolled up with a Panerai. I totally got why he had it - exquisite design, in my non-watch person's view.
If my Euromillions come up, I'll be down the Panerai shop in a heartbeat, if only to look classically understated with the arm to which it is affixed draped around the waist of a significantly younger gold-digger who will ruin my life, on the front page of the Daily Wail.

There is a lot of history between Panerai and Rolex, as Rolex supplied movements to Panerai at one time. I've had three Panerai watches, loved them all but overtime just found them too big. One I had was a Luminor Marina 1950 3 Day. Beautiful watch, but the case was too thick to fit comfortably under a shirt cuff. Ended up selling them all, resale not great.
I had great fun buying different straps though, in fact I've still got a few left somewhere sat in a drawer doing nothing if anyone is interested (FOC).
Buy to keep and enjoy.

Rolex supplied movements and cases to the original Panerai company in the Second World War, a company that has approximately zero relationship to the re-born Panerai we know today.I had great fun buying different straps though, in fact I've still got a few left somewhere sat in a drawer doing nothing if anyone is interested (FOC).
Buy to keep and enjoy.

And applying that logic, Ferraris, Ducatis, Jaguars etc etc have no claim to their branding...
Two here, a Ti Luminor auto and a Radiomir SLC. Both raise a smile when they come out.
The history is well worth some reading time
I didn't make any comment about branding, of course they have a claim on the brand - they own it - or at least I assume they do ... Two here, a Ti Luminor auto and a Radiomir SLC. Both raise a smile when they come out.

It was really the relevance of the Rolex link I was pointing out. Rolex supplied something like 100 movements and cases to the original Panerai. Why not say there's a lot of history with Swatch or JLC or Zenith as they have supplied thousands of movements to the current Panerai?
