Rolex AD's - No discount?
Discussion
I'm planning on picking up a new Rolex when I'm back in the UK next month (and thus claiming back the VAT too). Having spoken to a number of AD's none are willing to offer any discount at all on a new watch. Well, one AD offered a bottle of champagne to seal the deal...
Is this because discount is no longer offered on new SS watches? Or am I better off heading to the shop and negotiating (and then claiming back the VAT, well 16.7% or whatever they give)?

Yes.They don't need to discount on SS, as they can sell 'em at list all day everyday, and you'll be lucky to even find many AD in London with any stock of SS sports watches at the moment......as they are flogging them all to tourists, due to UK being about the cheapest place to buy a Rolex at the moment with UK list price and exchange rates!!
You'll get your VAT back when departing, but you won't get a discount as well as VAT back!

16.67ish % + fees, but a discount now is very, very unlikely!

If it's a Sub, GMT, BLNR, Hulk, Daytona etc you won't even find any of those in shops in the UK atm.

So a trip to a shop might be a bit dull.

Come on D, I know you're prone to forum hyperbole but that's just toot. Just because you walk into your local Goldsmith and they don't have any of the above does not mean that are not out there available in some other shops/towns.So a trip to a shop might be a bit dull.
Last time I was in Newcastle city centre (a month ago) I could have purchased brand new (out of the window) a rhodium dial yacht master, gmt (black), submariner date and a deep sea and that's before we get into the proper watches.
The emperors new clothes...
(if you believe the forums
)As others have noted you won't get any discount but the VAT refund should make it a very good value watch for you. I think if you are prepared to hunt around you might get lucky and find a sub or GMT in an AD. The west end and Knightsbridge have highest concentration of AD's. Start in Selfridges, make your way down Bond St, detour to Watches of Switzerland and M&W on regent st, then down to the temp Rolex boutique on Old Bond St while the main one is being refurbished.
If you haven't found anything then head over to Harrods and look at other AD's in the vicinity.
You could also email all the AD's and ask when they have deliveries due and if they are willing to take a deposit or full payment via cc to secure a watch.

Thanks, but I'll actually be up north. Spoken to a few AD's who have the watch. So looks like I'll reserve it over the phone. If you haven't found anything then head over to Harrods and look at other AD's in the vicinity.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I got around 12% off a LV Ceramic Sub around five years ago, which was much better than I expected at the time.
Also got a bottle of wine and a Rolex umbrella - I'm not a massive wine fan and I've still not used the umbrella!
Haha I will have that umbrella how much you want for it?Also got a bottle of wine and a Rolex umbrella - I'm not a massive wine fan and I've still not used the umbrella!
