I think I'd like something with corners to be the next addition to my modest collection; two contenders so far:

of which the JLC is very much nicer - but at more than twice the cost it perhaps should be. I've always liked the idea of a Tank, but it was rather disappointing to handle, feeling overly light and almost as if the case were stamped from sheet rather than milled from solid.

So, what else is out there?

or oblong I guess.

I prefer the Santos 100 to the tank myself.

Nice, but I'm not sure about the exposed screws and I'd rather discounted the Santos because of them. I'll have a look at one.

The Reverso won't disappoint - photos don't do it justice.
I've just bought a UT Duoface so slightly biased!

I would be buying a jlc reverso over a Cartier.

I like the Silverstone, but for me that scratches the '1970s' itch, rather than the 'square' one. I find the Rolex a little on the brash side.

The tank, although it is a classic piece, is not in the same league as the reverso in quality or finish.
I also found them to wear not quite as well - *something* just didn't look right to me. My OCD on the santos was triggered by the screws being at random positions (unlike, say the screws on an AP royal oak) so that was out.

The Reverso is absolutely iconic and has been around a long while.
As such there are plenty of different variants to suit, and many available pre-owned or discounted via greys or from overseas if you don't fancy the hefty AD prices. For example, the next JLC on my hit list you can currently obtain from numerous reputable grey dealers for around 30%+ less than the AD - for the same brand new watch.
Just make sure you try them on, as all of the different sizes wear very differently.

If your budget really can't stretch, have you looked at a Tiffany east west? They wear very similar to a reverso and are pretty cool
(not my picture)

At the other end of the scale, the Sekonda N3776 is a good choice:

The case has a decent weight to it but the strap was rather nasty, so I swapped onto a Hirsch Crocograin (that probably doubled the cost). It would still come in under £50.
