I currently have a 13 year old sub with date and today have been offered a brand new batman. Should I swap? I love the look of the batman. The sub hasn't been serviced since purchase. I was considering get it serviced this year.

I think that I will upgrade? Should I just keep the sub? I'm undecided.

Any thoughts.

How much do you have to pay? Go for Batman if you like the look and don't mind polished centre links as well as maxi case/dial (it will wear bigger than your Sub).

Sub plus £2.5k. A new watch would be wonderful.

So they value your Sub at 4k, that's a good deal. If the Batman is brand new and has the 5 year warranty I'd go for that.

This. The polished links grate on me and if you go 10yrs plus between service will not age as gracefully as your sub. However you probably only paid 2.5k for your sub so seems like a good deal to me to take the BLNR. You can always get the links brushed. The new bracelets and clasps are a big improvement too.

Looked at both side by side the other week and personally I didn't like polished centre links, or "fussier" bezel, of the GMT II.
Isn't the Sub the more classic watch?

Did you read: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/inside-rolex
...from the recent thread?

It includes:

Let's not forget that 13 year old Sub will have that old flimsy Seiko SKX like bracelet/clasp. New style bracelets play in a totally different league and together with maxi case increase perceivable quality of the watch. I'd be surprised if OP doesn't feel impressed by BLNR.

No brainier. The BLNR is in a different league with the clasp and batman/bruiser colourway. I absolutely adore mine.

The only thing I'd be considering IIWY is keeping the sub. 13years old will mean massive equity in it so if money allows I'd be sending it off for service and keeping both.

A BLNR at list is already making you money, so by keeping both watches you get the best of both worlds. One new watch and the memories of the old.

Hi

From one great watch to another!

Love the Batman. I have bought and sold quite a few and am amazed how after over three years on the market it is still so desirable.

Tempting as it may be to change from your trusty Sub to the BLNR my gut feel if funds allow would be to keep it, send it off to Rolex for a service and stick it in the safe as an investment. I bought my first Rolex when I was 21 and sold it 10 years later for £800! Now don't i regret that!

Enjoy your BLNR when you get it.

Early last year I was considering part 'exin my 7 year old Sub for something newer like a Batman or even a no-date SubC (only got offered £3k for it though in PX - was pre-Brexit currency crash though) but never bothered, and a few weeks ago, decided to put it into Rolex Service at St.James for its first service, with intention of doing just as you suggest, and chucking it back in its box in safe when I get it back.

However, as for OP, 4k is a very good offer on your unserviced Sub for its age, and if you can't afford to keep both, the Batman is certainly a good choice to replace it with, I doubt you'll regret the change.

I've got both. old - on a 2002 GMT II and new style- on a 2015 no date sub and wear them each regularly.

Old stamped metal bracelet
Light
Simple
Classic look
Rattle" ( which I like!

new style bracelet
More perceived quality
Heavier
More complex

There is only one way out of this - keep the Sub and fund the BNLR with an interest-free credit card over two years!

Just having a mooch around and stumbled on this...

Just thought it had a rather subtler look. Thought I'd share.

I`m not sure the BLNR is really an "upgrade", it`s just another REALLY nice watch!

It might be better here and there technically but more than that it`s really nice and you fancy one!

I know it can be hard to do but try to have both, they are both metal, round and tell the time but I think they are different enough

I`m not mad about the polished centre links, I have a Sub bracelet but VERY VERY easy to get the centre links brushed at very low cost by a professional!

WF at £4250, could do with a nice Everest or Rubber B strap if they'll fit it.

After lots of thought I decided to buy the batman and keep the sub. In fact the sub went for a service. The batman seems to be superior both in the watch and bracelet.

Just want to thank everyone for their advice.
