Great article, I have visited the factory a few times and will be there again next week (as well as IWC) so will try and post some pictures. Love that 57 Milgaus.
Do you work in the trade? Would love to visit the factory but didn't think visits were possible for joe public. 7184c said:

The 6610 explorer, do watches get any better then that?....
An interesting read, thanks.
As an aside, I took my late Mothers Rolex to a valuation day, several experts often seen on television were 'on duty'. Having looked at the watch I was advised that it wasn't a Rolex, so to speak, after all, although it proudly displays the Rolex brand on the watch face. It was actually manufactured by a Company contracted by Rolex to produce such watches to an extremely high quality of course. I have also a very old Gruen wrist watch which I know absolutely nothing about.. It is in very poor order with the hands missing, not working but complete mechanically and generally well down at heel. It's lain in the back of the draw for the past thirty years as I do not feel it's worth spending restoration money on it at the moment.

Paul told me that before Rolex became successful enough to manufacture Rolex watches he used a fine watch maker under contract and the watches were branded with the Rolex name, it is certainly a fine watch deserving of the brand name, it is not a fake or anything like that. TBH I was taken aback by what I was told, the value is much lower than I expected at around several hundred pounds, I expected at least £1,000.
