Got myself a Steinhart Ocean One a while ago. Really nice watch. It looks great on the bracelet but it was too heavy for me. Put it on a Nato, which looked great but it didnt feel right. The strap seemed too thin for the watch, which is quite heavy on it's own. So heavy that the strap hole kept stretching and the watch was always loose on the wrist. So I fitted a Hirsch strap to it with a deployant from istraps. Much more balanced. Very pleased with the result. Next was the ceramic bezel. Sounds great on paper and very shiny but useless when trying to read in the daylight. Don't see the point in them. So changed it for an alluminium one from Steinhart. Much better. At least to me it is.

Sorry the picture is huge. Doesn't do it justice. Can't figure out this picture hosting lark.

I'm a fan - I've got three Steinharts. My Ocean went onto a steel mesh bracelet soon after I got it, and I've alwags felt the balance on my wrist was nice. I have an Ocean Bronze too, and that's on the 'canvas' strap it came with. Again, very comfortable.

The final one is a Nav-B Chrono, and that's a bit of a beast regardless of which strap it's on. Realistically, I think 47mm is pushing it for me...

I've never tried a mesh. Always thought they looked like hair grabbers. I take it yours doesn't.

It's a nice looking watch, but is it not just a Rolex snide?

Alright it doesn't say "Polex" or something on the dial or perhaps hasn't come from a lucky lucky man, but isn't this the watch equivalent of a MR2 Ferrari, without the Ferrari badges?

I have to say I'm of the same opinion with these.

It's not a "homage", it's a blatant copy and one (small) step away from being a Rorex.

Probably OK for the driver of the Lange Lover Land Wind X7

I really like this.

OP - Did you order this from them direct? or are there UK outlets that stock these?

You say it was too heavy, what is the weight of the watch including the steel strap? that said the weight wont bother me cant see it being any heavier than my 44mm Omega Seamaster. They do a titanium one dont they? should be much lighter?

Are the bezels ready available and easy to change? your's looks like a green one in the pics? very Rolex - but i suppose thats what is offending some people...that and the design but who cares!

I cant work out whether its better looking, or better value than a Christopher Ward? Similar money?

You're right, it's nowhere near as embarrassing to wear as a real Rolex.

I've mooched over these on and off, and although it's not a replica, it may just as well be, so nope. I'll get a GMT II when I can afford one.

Yes, it's a copy of a Rolex, but rather than most snides/fakes, they're actually quite a good watch in their own right. Eta movements, well made, well finished and relatively affordable. If you like the design, and can't afford a submariner, then why not. Not everyone has the funds or desire to spend the funds on a Sub.

I got it direct from Steinhart and it weighs 190g with the bracelet. Probably about half that without, though I haven't weighed it. The bezel insert I got direct from them also. It was easy to change. The bezel is not removable so I just popped the watch into some hot water for five minutes to loosen the glue on the insert then carefully prized it off with a sharp knife. Cleaned any residue off then stuck the new insert on. Can't comment on CWard as I have never owned one. Can't say I am likely to either as I just don't like the way the name is displayed on the face. But each to thier own.

Same reason most wouldn't buy fake/copy clothes, drive an mr2 based ferrari 355 rep etc etc.

There are so many sub 1k watches available from small brands, with excellent build and decent movements, but with a bit of originality. I just don't understand buying something a logo away from being a fake. They even make some decent looking pieces that do have a bit of flair and originality.

I understand that some don't have, or don't want to spend the money that a sub goes for. I don't have the means for a daytona, but I'm not about to go and buy the pretend version!

The aforementioned nice diver

But this sort of tat is just appalling.

Excuse the "newbie" question, but who made the first watch with the Rolex Submariner "look"?

I think it was Rolex, but I see other longstanding brands with an almost identical design. Omega for instance.

I do agree it's odd to copy a design to "get in on the act". Why not go your own way with something original?

Bit like an MR2 that looks like a Ferrari then.

Both Submariner and Fifty Fathoms in 1953. Was it a race, or did Rolex just "copy" Blancpain?

Does that make the Submariner an MR2 also?

eek

What Omega looks like a Rolex copy? confused
