Afternoon watch geeks. I've been given a £1350 gem check card to spend at some jewellers. I'm thinking of spending the card + a little extra cash if needed to buy the other half a watch. These are what we've narrowed it down to, she's tried on the Longines and the Omega. She liked both so it's really down to brand and automatic vs quartz.

Get her to try all the options and let her decide - simples.

The two she has already tried on would get my vote over the others, if she understands the pros/cons of quartz/auto (ultimately more pros for quartz) then it's down to her.

if you go for a TAG quartz watch then be prepared to lose it for 6 - 8 weeks every 12 - 18 months whilst they change the battery, which will cost you around £60 if you use the supplying high street jeweller (it always fails just outside the warranty period for each new battery put in). They are a nightmare! My advice? Don't do TAG quartz. In fact, try to avoid battery watches altogether if they are the more expensive brands. If you can bag a nice automatic then that has to be favourite.

"Watch for the missus"?
OK, seems like a reasonable swap. Is she a decent cook? If she is I might run to a Seiko Alpinist, if I'm going to have to do my own catering then I can't do better than a Seiko 5 or a filled gold Avia that needs repair.

Deal? I can collect, within reason. Wouldn't want to entrust her to a courier.

You're barking up the wrong tree. Casio edifice. Straight swap. Super noodles speciality. I keep the car though.
