I have been reading this forum for a short while and wanted some advice.

I really like the style of this watch in the link below

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/TAG-Heuer-Carrera-Cali...

However looking at the forum Tags are not highly thought of and so I am asking for what others would buy at a £1500-2000 budget? I can get the Tag for £1400 locally but it's my first time buying a watch at over £200 hence I'm looking for some advice.

I want a watch I can wear everyday at work (wear a suit) but also looks smart on the few occasions I need a dress watch as I can't afford two watches. I would like a <40mm face as well as a bracelet and a dark face (black/blue/dark grey). I would prefer new but I'm open to second hand options

Apologies for the spelling error in the title, a mistake the forum will not let me change

Thank you for that - out of all of the links the Speedmaster was the only one I really liked so I have enquired.

It doesn't come with a box, how much does this devalue a second hand watch? I don't think I would be selling again anytime soon but it's always good to know

Lack of a box makes no odds to me. Others say 5 to 10%. Its hard to say, a vintage watch isn't going to have one, where as a new watch should. If you aren't going to sell, buy without and negotiate down because of it.

However, I've just googled the model number of that Speedy. That's not a Speedmaster, it's a Speedmaster Reduced. As the name suggests, it is slightly smaller than the original. There have been noises that the smaller chrono caliber is less robust and harder to fix.

I'd suggest a full size one. Not difficult to search Chrono24. You should also search here about what Chrono24 are and do before you consider using them.

My other half has a Calibre 5 in her watch. She's worn it every day pretty much for the past three years and is very happy with it.

You're welcome.
Get on C24 and spend a couple of evenings browsing. Plenty of stuff out there. If TAG floats yer boat, there's nothing wrong with wearing one with pride. But, before you buy it's wise to know what else you can get for the money. The general consensus is that TAG don't compare well with similarly priced stuff when buying new. And of course new doesn't compare well with second hand.

If you liked the speedy, also take a look for a Brietling TopTime.
