10 Watches To Invest In Right Now - Lloyd Amsdon/Watchfinder
Discussion
I know FA about investing in watches but thought this was interesting. What are peoples thoughts on the 10 choices here? http://www.esquire.co.uk/style/watches/news/g7190/...

Early Breitling is probably a good shout. The rest don't seem like obvious choices to me. I see in other areas of collecting that items which weren't appreciated fully the first time around are more likely to become collectible in the future...there is also a high chance of them remaining in NOS/Mint condition. James Cameron Deep Sea springs to mind...I think that will rise in value and become more appreciated.
Pure speculation though. Surprised they didn't choose a G-Shock or a smartwatch for the list too.

Disagree on the Deep Sea, they didn't sell for a reason!
I must be in the minority that quite likes the chunky look of the Deep Sea. Is the blue version the rarer or more collectable of the 2? The Blue seems a lot more expensive from a quick Google on Deep Seas for sale.Phooey said:

I believe the blue model was a special edition to commemorate James Cameron's dive? May be wrong on that, does seem to command a premium though.SirSquidalot said:

Rolex had s
t loads of Deepsea Dwellers left so they decided to replace their stock with a new colour face and list it as 'Commemorative' model. Phooey said:

yep all those will loose you £1000's the minute you walk out the door !"Looking to buy a watch that looks great and will rise in value? Lloyd Amsdon, co-founder of the world’s largest pre-owned watch marketplace watchfinder.co.uk, selects 10 pieces with real investment potential"
as for holding value, well at best again none of those are, in real terms holding value is lost money !
very poor list, I bought my new SMPc for £1900 and my Black bay for £1650 ! (but as you know sold the Tudor, very over rated)
2 other watches I bought last year have both gone up £1k, and this years buy is up £1k atm also, 2 are Rolex and one is a rare Monaco.
only buy 2nd hand Rolex imo for long term money in the bank, unless you can get the new Daytona which will make you £4k over night atm.

Looking around, they seem to hold their value VERY well, so you'd probably get it back in 5 years (assuming inflation is almost zero still).
That one, though, seems to be the exception to, as said, a list of his current stock... Maybe he just happens to have a Navitimer too?

re: Rolex Sky-Dweller ... from their own site
This watch has never been worn. This is a pre-owned Rolex Sky-Dweller 326938. It has a 42mm Yellow Gold case, a Champagne Arabic dial, a Yellow Gold (Oyster) bracelet, and is powered by an Automatic movement. The case has a R144xxxx serial and paperwork is dated 28 March 2016, making it less than a year old, and comes complete with box.
PRICE £24,950
RETAIL PRICE £30,800
So dropped 20% in less than a year, and that's retail.
Or this one
This is a pre-owned Rolex Sky-Dweller 326135. It has a 42mm Rose Gold case, a Brown Arabic dial, a Crocodile - Brown bracelet, and is powered by an Automatic movement. The case has a 76S9xxxx serial and paperwork is dated 04 July 2014, making it 2 years old, and comes complete with box.
PRICE £18,500
RETAIL PRICE £26,350
So dropped 30% in less than two years, and again that's retail.
Have I got a different idea of what 'investment potential' is?

Best buy is an early chronograph that is about to be featured on Hodinkee Auction watch. Zenith Cairellis for £15k, early Autavias for £20k, Lemania viggens for £10k, Heuer Bunds for £2.5k....all featured on the Phillips auction recently and pre-publicised on Hodinkee leading to a 50-100-200% rise in normal float prices.
