How do you set the bloody date on the thing?

Cheers

I believe most Cartier owners go 60 times around the dial with the hour hand once a month. Alternatively I expect the crown has 2 stops, fully pulled out to change the time and half way out to change the date. Pull half way, ie one click, and then turn the crown until you get today's date.

Stop wearing watch, allow it to fully wind down.
Wait for day of month to match date displayed on watch.
Wind watch.

How hard can it be?

Alternatively, give it to a ten year old and ask him to to it. Kids are good with figuring out how to set watches (it's what the adults had to do with their new fangled LCD watches when I was ten).

So as I suspected, it's obviously broken and will need a repair. Cheers for your most helpful response. Cock.

Ash, I'm doing this from memory so forgive me if incorrect. There should be recessed button on the case-side by 10 o'clock. As shown below. If I remember correctly, pressing this with a point (I'd use a wooden toothpick or plastic point) advances the date a day at a time.

Hope this helps.

Really don't know why I didn't try that sooner. Many thanks, that's perfect.

That's the biggest problem with Cartier owners. No sense of humour and they think they're superior to everyone else.
Hmmn, that's the two biggest problems with Cartier owners...

And it's a sodding horrible great hulk of a watch. Anyway, it was found on the street, I handed in to police, they gave it back six months later with a note to say I can keep it. It's been sat at home for over a year and a mate said on Monday he'd be interested, so I sold it to him with the knowledge it's without paperwork etc, but I didn't know how to change the date, so asked. That's it. Cool story bro etc etc.

It's really not my cup of tea at all. Besides, I've warn the same watch for the last twelve years and that's unlikely to change.

I think you've nailed it down there Mike. My wife has several Cartier watches and despite 25 years of blissful marriage she still doesn't quite understand my sense of humour or complete lack of bothering when it comes to dress sense!
