5-6k spend (ish)

So, I asked my girlfriend to marry me. She says yes so suddenly we're looking at rings. Then she says 'I know you like watches.....' .She gets a ring and I get a watch
My toe dip into decent watches is limited to my C. 2008 Tag F1. But now.....
What could I buy to last a lifetime for around £5-6k? Always fancied a Breitling........
Open to almost anything, but not wanting another 'sports' watch (I have a watch now with the outer dial (whatever it's called) and would prefer one without the same).
Any/all suggestions please! Thanks.

If I were in the market for something non-sports watch:

JLC Grande Calendar with moonphase. Won't go out of fashion, might be a bit small for your tastes compared to the Tag.

Plenty of options out there however with that type of budget and for that kind of occasion I'd consider knocking on Dirk Dornblüth's door. It'd be a watch made for you and designed for a lifetime.

A bit of a left field choice IMO. Aren't his watches huge and quite delicate? I considered one a few years ago but after chatting to him, decided against it. 'Take it off for golf' was a comment he made - I don't play golf but am active and wanted a watch that was a bit hardier so naturally ended up with a Rolex. http://dornblueth.com

The first watch I thought of at that price when I read the title was this...

and then you say you fancy a Breitling. I always stop and stare at this when I'm out and about the shopping centres. My other half said similar to me in that she would buy me a Breitling if I bought her a ring. I don't have a Breitling

2. I'm very pleased with the IWC I recently purchased to go alongside my Breitling Montbrillant - see other thread
3. Talk to Dominic at Hackett watches once you know what you are looking for!
If you really want a Breitling, the Transocean chrono linked to (or a non-chrono like this - http://www.beaverbrooks.co.uk/0012125/Breitling-Tr... ) would be a good choice, but any new Breitling is going to take a hammering on value (maybe not an issue if you'll never want to part with it, but who knows?).
If I had that kind of money to spend, I'd be looking at a Zenith El Primero, personally, but that's because I love 'em

Rolex is always the default answer, same as MX5 is, but I find many of their non-sports watches a bit 'delicate' looking (shall we say).
The Explorer's probably the one I'd think of if you were keen on a Rolex, personally.

Congrats on the engagement.
Given the nature of the purchase, then I don’t think residual value is worth contemplating – so you’re not stuck with only a Rolex as the choice.
Speaking of which, don’t necessarily skip past the Oyster Perpetual, Milgauss, new 2016 Explorer, or even the new 2016 Air King – if 39/40mm isn’t too dainty looking for you.
Personally, I’d be getting well away from all the major brands than are mass producing hundred of thousands of their watches each year, and look something more limited.
Dornblüth make nice enough watches, but they wouldn’t be my go-to choice.
Instead, I’d be looking at something along these lines…
