Swap a Daytona for...?
Discussion
I'm in need of some informed suggestions.
I started a thread a while back about swapping a Daytona for a AP Royal Oak. Having tried a few on I've decided that aesthetically they're not for me. Idealy I'd like a Nautilus Annual Calendar but the asking price is a bit steep at the moment.
Budget then is circa £8k, needs to be reasonably robust, vintage or modern, no Rolex sports watches. I've been eyeing up Vintage Day Dates but fear 36mm may feel a bit small on the wrist now.

Any suggestions?

It's worth trying on the day date and seeing what you think. I recently bought a 34mm Air King having worn a Seamaster for the best part of a decade. I was worried it was going to look and feel too small but it really doesn't. After about half an hour, my Seamaster started looking quite big rather than the Air King quite small.

Thanks, will do. I used to have a Datejust up until a couple of years ago, I've just got used to the bigger size in the meantime. I like the day date, though I think I'd prefer a leather strap. Try the 36 mm day-date on, it wears larger than it looks and is a truly stunning, iconic watch.
It has a huge wrist presence even in 36 mm. Being solid gold there is also the added weight so it still feels good on the wrist despite 36 mm now being considered a small watch.
I personally prefer the 41 mm day date II as due to regularly wearing a 18ct yellow gold Yacht Master II am used to a larger watch now, but the original version is also great.
Have you tried on a royal oak offshore?
A little bit over the 8k you mention but not much and is also a great watch, that looks much nicer in the flesh than in pictures.
