Book on mechanical watch repair
Discussion
Hello,
Rather than take a punt on the reviews from Amazon is anyone able to recommend a introductory book on practical watch repair for the layman?
Nothing that will turn me into a master craftsman, but something that will help me understand these mechanical miracles a bit more.
Many thanks,

Probably the best out there is stil Donald Dr Carle's "Practical Watch Repairing" in terms of accuracy, breadth and depth of information.
It covers everything from basic cleaning up to turning part and timing in positions in a hands-on way but with enough theory included to understand why as well as "how".
The only slight downside is that it's fairly old fashioned in style (and occasionally language) so may not be ideal for people brought up on Wikipedia.
Personally, I find the style to be part of its charm and in keeping with the historical roots of the subject.
