watch repairers
Discussion
Hi . I have a breitling and the crown has come un screwed. I took the watch to an authorised dealer and they have said its got to go back to breitling to be serviced plus the repair. Which I can get a price on the service but the repair has to go to be estimated. So I can't get a fixed price. Best part of £800.00 I think.
I have rang a couple of watch repairers and there price to fix the crown would be £35.00 ish.
The watch itself is in great condition an I can't really justify spending £800.00 for a £35.00 job. ( If the watch was scratch up and losing time I wouldn't hesitate and send it to breitling)

Most of the makers take the line that as soon as the case has been "compromised" it needs to be serviced to ensure reliability. You could be setting the time in their show-room when it happened and hand it to them immediately - they'd still say it needed servicing to be on the safe side.
If it's simply unscrewed then refitting the crown is a simple and quick job. There's someone on here who's done a couple of similar repairs recently in return for postage and a voluntary donation to the RBL

That would be your good self, Mr Variomatic. If it's simply unscrewed then refitting the crown is a simple and quick job. There's someone on here who's done a couple of similar repairs recently in return for postage and a voluntary donation to the RBL

Here's a total vote of confidence for a genuinely professional and reliable watchmaker!

It would, but I'm not allowed to say that myself
Will say that I'm looking forward to handing the current RBL jar in though. We collected £101 and some pennies in the last one (apparently the average is around £30 in coppers) but the good folk of PH have got a good way towards the last total on their own this time - and notes from the post take up a lot less space in the jar than coins over the counter. So hoping to blitz the last one this time round
