My mother has a two tone ladies datejust

It has gold face, hands & markers so is not that easy to read. I see there are options like white face with yellow gold markers which would work well

I am assuming Rolex will happily change the dial and be equally happy to charge a lot for the privilege

What are the other, cheaper options whilst still using an authentic OEM pristine dial ? Is it easy for say a decent AD to change in house (and will they change it in house if they are an AD ?). Does anyone have an idea about what kind of prices might be involved ?

Oh and for these purposes, is 'dial' the same as 'face'

Cheers

Face and dial are the same, most ADs will charge for a service and a dial change. Was speaking to a friend of a friend a few weeks ago and he mentioned he was in Hatton garden and they had a window full of dials for his Daytona and would swap them within a few hours?

Not sure how much of that is true but it's a start at least?

Most watch dealers (as opposed to AD's) will have a stock dials acquired over the years. A competent watchmaker can exchange a Rolex dial in 15 mins or so.

There are many dealers in Greville St just off Hatton Garden and in the arcades in Hatton Garden who can arrange a dial change.

Hope this helps.

I tried to offload my wifes Rolex Bi metal datejust with Black dial (also have a spare gold dial) and the shop were saying they'd have to change the dial to the gold one to sell it on and offered me a few hundred less.

dunno if they were just trying to pull a fast one. Black dial is nice though. Still got the watch if your wifey wants to have two biggrin

They were. If you were selling the watch and the two dials, it's still the same 15-20 minute job for their watchmaker to change. Unless their watchmaker bills them at £6-800 per hour then they were pulling a fast one. It happens...

But wouldn't Rolex replace the dial back to original if the watch goes in for a RSC service?

Not if the replaced dial is an original Rolex dial (and is correct for the model reference). Any after-market dial, Rolex will insist on replacing as part of the required work.

I carried out a dial re-paint for a mate who wanted a Paul Newman look on his Daytona.

If you PM me I will send you details.

Best regards

David

Mention of Rloex Dials. I have a Datejust, never kept good time losing around 5 minutes a week, after it had been back to Rolex 4 times they suggested that this was within the error for margin. I had the P taken out of me good and proper for having spent so much on a watch that couldnt be relied on. This was made even worse when one of them picked up two bad fakes in Singapore.

Genuine Daytona but re-painted dial (Newman look).

Both complete fakes, still work well though and keep better time than my Rolex!

Jonby,

I can probably sort out your Mother's Datejust dial, as we have a number of Rolex dials in our workshop. I'm in Southport, call in to my Shop at some time if you want.

I have a DateJust II, I don't really ever use it but it was a gift so I keep it & look after it. I had a full service & dial change to give it a different look and it cost £800-£900 I think (I can't 100% remember).

I think service cost was approx £400, so it was an extra £400 or so for the new dial.

That was from rolex main AD on old bond street.
