As the title suggests, how did your pride and joy become damaged or destroyed?

I was talking to a friend, he bought a his 'n' hers set of Rolexs. One fine sunny day she went into the garden for a sunbathe, and not wanting a strap mark, took her watch off and enjoyed the afternoon. later that day she decided to mo the lawn (yeah, I know!!!)
BzzzzzzzzzzzzCrackSmashKachBang……. The Rolex was no more.

Has anyone ruined theirs in a better way?

I don't know about a better way but probably a slightly stupider way.

A few years ago, one December I think, I had a reunion with a few guys from uni. Started off at someone's house then off walking to the centre of town. It had been snowing earlier on and was now frozen. Other guys having a snowball fight and I decide to leave via a different door to them, run round and surprise them with cold snow down their backs.

Running on uneven, frozen snow whilst having consumed quite a few beers resulted in me going arse-over-tit and smashing my Oris on the concrete. Huge gouges in the glass, all around the bezel and the metal strap.
Worst part was I had slipped twice before, thought I should slow down but decided to carry on running as getting snow down my mates back was more important...

I've been quite lucky touch wood but I always forget to take my watch off when reaching between the back of a cupboard and the wall when trying to find something.

I left my Planet Ocean in a House of Fraser changing room once. It was fine, fortunately. My pants took most of the damage.

Usually, it starts with me thinking I can save money by opening the back myself.

I was in the Maldives, on a boat, throwing bread to the fishes in deep, deep water. As a threw one particil;arly large bit of bread at a particularly large fish a particularly long way from the boat, I saw the watch (a rather fetching Omega PO Pumpkin on Orange Rubber) sail in a graceful arc, before going plop and disappearing into the blue chasm. I think the strap pin broke.

I assume it was damaged, as the water was 2000ft + deep, and the watch is only rated to that.

Another drink related one. I was at a house party with family and friends and nipped outside for a cheeky smoke. I was so drunk I just fell over smashing my watch on a paving slab. It took me about 5 minutes to get up I was that bad. I sat there looking at my watch, looking at blood on the ground and just thought oops. I sneaked in covered in mud and blood and shouted at the top of my voice, "honey, I need to sneak off home, shhh". Apparently I wasn't as discreet as I had wanted to be. Now I'm under instructions to use my cheap Fossil beater for parties.

What a brilliant thread.

A few years ago one of the chaps I was out with on an afternoon session decided to flying rugby tackle one of the rectangular illuminated traffic bollards you see at small junctions. Both him and his watch (a Tag Heuer I think) came off considerably worse than the bollard and his watch spent the rest of the day in his pocket.

After many beers I fell off one of those rickshaw things in London. Watch was badly damaged and my shirt was written off
