After my recent thread of what GMT to buy, I decided to take the plunge and try one of these Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT's. Indeed some people are not a fan of the brand, which essentially produce 'homage' watches, this particular one is very similar that of the Rolex Explorer II, (ref. 1655) late 1970's era I believe). The Steinhart is 44mm rather than the smaller 40mm of the Rolex.

The Steinhart is Swiss Made and sports an ETA-2893 movement, brushed stainless steel with sapphire crystal. I've worn the watch two weeks now and it feels very well made for the money, weighty and also feels nice on my wrist. This is my first GMT watch, and it takes a few days to get used to working out what the second time is as the orange hand points to the time on the bezel rather than the markers on the face. The bracelet is well made, the only gripe is the clasp lacks a decent finish, almost like the casting was not clean or something. (see pic below) but of course you do not see this when wearing it. The lume is excellent, better than I thought. Its on par with my Fortis's.

Anyway, I bought this from the UK and had it delivered to me in Singapore, where I saved the UK VAT on the price (and it nicely slipped through customs this side), so all in it was around £300. All in all, I'm impressed with the watch and value for money compared to my current collection, but mostly its useful as well.

Few pics.

Very nice. smile

Out of interest, is the GMT hand a 'jump hour' or is it infinitely variable?

You can set it two ways, one independently or when you adjust the main hand is adjusts the GMT hand as well.

Sorry, I meant when you adjust the GMT hand independently of the main hour hand, does the GMT hand skip between the hours or does it rotate like the minute hand when you're adjusting the main time zone?
I hope that makes sense!
It's a bit of an odd question, but if the GMT hand is infinitely variable then you can track timezones that are ±0.5hr. nerd

That I like.

I've needed a GMT in the collection for some time, having never owned one.

I may have to save up £300.

Liking the look of that as well, and I'm not fussed about the homage thing either. Those snaps show the watch off well smokin
