Nice one Bobbers, and the family connection makes it extra special. Nerd question: is that a Miyota base movement with a custom rotor?
There's some questions about which movement is used, some citing the venerable Seiko NH35 some citing a Miyota, to be fair I wouldn't know which was which, AVI-8 just state Japan Movement.summit7 said:
That looks really good Bobbers, like the well balanced clear dial and simple case. Just what this thread is all about.
It is a nice simple face, one of the things I liked about it.BrokenSkunk said:

Ooopppsss, I just bought another watch.............to be fair Mrs Bobbers did tell me to buy it!!!
Does direction to buy a watch from Mrs Bobbers mean that the purchase can not be guilt tripped, or used filed away for use in any completely unrelated future argument? If so, have you considered renting out Mrs. Bobbers to perform watch purchase authorisation for those of us who have, until now, had to run the gauntlet of horologically triggered menopausal wrath? Perhaps she could issue certificates of authorisation that we could cower behind, as if they were shields of steel...
This time next year you'll be millionaires!
My fathers family lived in Woolston too, they were in Longmore Crescent. Most of that side of the family worked for Vospers rather than Spitfire Marine though.
The Avi-8 is not my style. But I'm cuffed that you're chuffed.

As for filing it away for use later, to be fair she doesn't do that..........
Or at least not yet.......
Well the AVI-8 Spitfire Woolston has arrived, and I'm wearing it away today.
First impressions were ok, a little lighter than I was expecting, and at first I thought it was a bit plasticy, but, having wound and set it I really like it, super legible, wears really nicely on the wrist, the leather strap is soft and comfortable, it's dead quiet in operation, and there are a load of nice little touches like the "rivets and panels"!!

Now I need to know, because fat b
d - what is the largest size wrist this would fit?
Can I take the risk of jumping in there and answering?
If it fits Bobbers’ wrist like that then you don’t need to worry about it wearing small!

Hello all. First post on here. I'm currently working through the thread (currently at March 2022) but just wanted to say hi and that it's so refreshing in here compared to a lot of PH threads where people are just venting bile at each other all the time.
You all seem like a very friendly bunch.
And who doesn't love a bit of opera?

Most of my watches are well under the £200 mark so it's great to see what you guys are wearing and to get some ideas.
I hope you all have a great weekend.

Post a pic of your collection if you feel happy to, we try to be as open, honest, accommodating and fun as possible, the budget is pretty flexible, and we don't mind the occasional budget buster, but please remember that CdeG has a nervous disposition with regards to anything remotely resembling a mesh strap, so obviously post as many of those as you can!!!

Apparently these were sold as some sort of scam in the 90's/00's. A guy would be sitting in a car park or service station in a flash BMW or Merc and call you over saying he's got too many watches to sell and needs to offload quickly. Yours for £200 against an RRP of £1k. Even had a two page ad in a magazine of dubious origin. Most people haggled down to about £50 and went on their way.

haha, I remember that - I am sure I had some chap in an obviously rented Merc pull over and offer me some random watch once while I was walking through town. I'm not sure why anyone would fall for that sort of thing but I guess it must work sometimes!Apparently these were sold as some sort of scam in the 90's/00's. Wasn't that also a thing for large speakers as well??
