Where would you buy a homage Breitling Navitimer from?
Rotary do a pretty decent 'homage'.

Bobbers has one, he doesn’t wear it nearly enough, it’s a lovely thing.
yes

It is indeed a good watch, keeps excellent time, looks great, not too bulky but has presence, had to replace my strap after around 16-17 years.

I cannot stand their videos. The voice over, the writing, the production - just everything about them makes me cringe... is it just me?
Nope, not just you, just watched it, never watched one before, don't think I'll bother again!!

Sorry about that….it is more than a bit cringe, but they do do excellent macro shots and it really shows the quality of the 5.
Oh the picture quality is excellent, but why would a video obviously aimed at the American Market use such a boring English accent?

Yep, I knew it wouldn't be long before you were buying watches again!!!

Did someone on here have a Straton a while back?
Just been looking at them and I'm quite taken with a couple!!

I picked this up recently. A tad over budget but has a nice look and feel. I can recommend P1 watches as a seller.
Cheers

Very nice, thanks for that, but I've been offered one of my "grail" watches for £129 under list price, still way over budget but I'm seriously considering it.......

Be gentle....

It's my first visit to the Watches thread and this thread really caught my eye. I'm after a watch around the budget and have looked at the Seiko 5.

Main reason is my "dress watch" looks like it will need to go back to TAG (I know, I know, I was young and foolish but it was a gift and has huge sentimental value).

I'd rather go new so what can anyone here recommend?

I know very little about watches and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

(Prepares for ritual stoning)

Firstly, welcome to our little corner of tinternet, secondly, we don't stone, belittle, berate or any other type of put down, thirdly, owning a TAG is nothing to be ashamed of, and lastly, what style are you looking for? Do you prefer quartz or automatic?

Let’s see the Tag
Currently in repair (Grrr!) but I'll see if I can get a library pic....

This one, got in the U.S. in 2007.
That’s a nice watch. Very nice
Agreed, very understated, lovely watch that!!
If you're seriously considering the Seiko 5 I think the only thing you won't like is the bracelet, they're not the best.

+1, an absolute cracker. Let’s hope the repair isn’t too spenny.
Deep breath.....

So I regularly get it serviced every 3 - 4 years (Goes to TAG and comes back 2 months later...) via a Jeweller local to me. The last service and I quote

"Full Service and replacement crown as well as new gaskets" 12/12/20

So the Jewellers called me yesterday and said "looks like it has to go back to TAG and the crown replaced and that has to be done with a service" Erm... It only just got replaced?

Waiting to see what happens next but lets just say the "Service" was over double this threads budget.....

Sigh....
Ooohhh that's not good!! Surely you could argue that TAG should be covering the cost of replacing the crown as it's less than 18 months old?!?!

It doesn’t feel very jet-set, sitting here at Heathrow bus station, eating a cold pasta salad whilst eating for a coach to Milton Keynes and trying not to get Covid.
Don't tell me your private chauffeur let you down again?!?!

Surely any art form is better existing/performed than not. Warts and all.
Absolutely, and I quite agree. I suppose the point I was making was…well, as performers we have obligations: to the composer and librettist, to the director, conductor, colleagues, and of course to the paying public. What we put out there has to be the very best that it can possibly be, both to (hopefully) guarantee the future of the art form, and (in my case) satisfy one’s professional conscience.

WRT tonight’s show, I fear decisions have been taken both by management AND by singers to do roles that they’re just not currently capable of performing to an international standard. I hope I’m proved wrong.

Apologies all for the rambling post, and massive thread drift!
Told you before, never apologise for posting about what you do, I personally find it fascinating, it's the reason we changed the thread title!!
I understand where you're coming from, as an engineer in the aerospace industry I try to be professional at all times, what I produce must be right, whether it's making a component or creating an SOP to produce that component, sadly not everyone feels the same way.

I find it weird how watches can 'wear small' or 'wear big' - for example, the ProPlof 'homage' wink
Again, just say counterfeit.
Depends on whether it's pretending to be made by Omega or has a different makers name on, if it's sporting a different makers name it's perfectly acceptable to be an homage.

You don’t have to, you’ve posted about it tons of time on here.
Right, can we stop this please? I really couldn't give a rats arse what people choose to buy, whether it be a Mickey Mouse watch, a plastic Swatch, an overpriced Seiko, a fake, an homage or anything else, this thread was started as an antidote to all the posturing, stupid terms and general poncyness of most of the other watch threads, please don't bring it down to their level by sniping about whether a watch is fake or not, it really doesn't matter, we're all here just to enjoy cheap(ish) watches!!

Come on mister, show us your watch…
Was looking at a C65 Super Compressor when I stumbled upon the Ltd Editions range, limited to 250 re-released pieces, I've wanted a pilots watch for a long time after I didn't get on with the Invicta one I bought, saw this and showed Mrs Bobbers who told me to buy it straight away!!
